SMW Midpoint Star

Since it's been discovered that multiple checkpoints can be simulated by using SMW star events, I got the idea to make a graphic that fits the concept. Comes in two varieties - one has stripes that alternate colors, and one mixes them. There are also SMB3 versions with both stripe alignments.

I've got a question about this. Is it possible to make this star "not count" in the star count?

No. This graphic won't do anything to circumvent SMBX limitations, it's still a normal star.

But it may be possible with LunaDLL, that is.

All right, quick update. I've modified the star graphic so that the left animation is a normal star, while the right animation is what you see in the pictures. That way, you can use checkpoint stars and normal stars in the same level. I got the idea from a PM conversation with FanofSMBX, so thanks to him for that. Download link is updated.

I don't actually know if it is, but if that worked this would be even better.

Then again, you could put it in the same section as a normal star and have it work that way, but that would require you to get the normal star before getting the checkpoint one.

Oh man, instead of having a regular Mini Goal Tape at a Midway Point, let's have a Star instead once you reach halfway of your Level that has a regular SMW Star. This is actually a real clever Idea you made. No idea if I am gonna use though since it can be confusing by swapping the Midway Point around but that is just my personal opinion so nothing is wrong by that. Great Work.

You can use it in addition to a real checkpoint, too. The star's "death" can create an instant warp at the start/checkpoint that leads to where the star was.

You can make them with LunaDLL variables but it's really annoying. Personally I wouldn't use that method. My preferred method is still hiding shortcuts in your level.

Can you recolour it in SMB3 style, please ? Thank you so much.

Sure, I've included both versions in SMB3 style. The download is updated.

How would I disable the star "counting" using lunadll?

This is what I did in my SMBX Comunity contest 7 level entry, and elitalianoverde helped me with that, is this where you got the idea from?

Partly, but there's been a little talk about whether or not multiple midpoints could be possible and I feel like the concept is something that could very well catch on. Considering that, I felt that there could be a need for a fitting graphic, so I went ahead and made it. Better yet, the latest download doesn't even disable you from using normal stars if you specifically set it to face Left or Right as you place it, so you don't have to sacrifice anything to use it.

Does that also make the check-point permanent?

It does, but perhaps the star's death event could create doors that go between checkpoints or the start of the level.

@SnifitGuy: Very cool idea, but I think that'd break the possibility of putting multiple checkpoints in one level. But if that's not what you're going for, that could function pretty well on its own.

Sorry for the late reply, but If you remember from my contest level, I used a door to warp the player! only the second onward needs the star!

You can always replace the actual midpoint NPC and make it look like a star.

Doesn't that remove the element of multiple midpoints?

Yes, but pick your poison!
