is it just a placeholder??

As some of you may probably know, is part of the rank images and has been since 2014 and probably even before. Is he actually a real rank that's just incredibly high in the amount of posts needed, or he has been just some kind of troll/placeholder image??

I can't wait for everyone to say "Such a stupid question this is, damn!!".

I have never ever seen or heard about this. How do you know this? Are you able to access all the rank images in existence?

I wish I could.
Old curious me on 2014 would just write some random links upon writing ("Ranks/Bowser.gif"), which ended up showing this.

Fun-fact: You can also find SMB3 Bowser! It's all about guessing and being lucky..

I have no idea what info could be gained from this. There was a recognizable pattern going from Mario to Link, who has been finally unlocked by PixelPest (after him stepping down from admin position and leaving the forum forever). Maybe we just have to wait what's next when someone finally hits 8,000 posts without having a special rank. (if we're ever gonna experience that)

Just because a rank image exists in the ranks directory does not mean it will be used, or that it won't be used in the future; although that Bowser rank image is way too big and probably won't be used. Guessing file names won't really tell you anything.

speaking of which, do the admins actually know the whole rank setup?

How many are actually in use, and how many are there that no user has received already?

ignoring all special ranks, as I said, we've hit the 7,000 posts rank. Anything from 8,000 posts is secret and I have no idea how far it goes up.

Enjl has a special rank, and I don't think he'll give it away that easily. (I would once I eventually come close)

Should it eventually become likely that nobody will ever hit a new rank due to complete decline of activity, I at least would like to know the missing ranks.

Pretty happy since this rank doesn't take up much space on the page. The only rank I'd be happy to have instead of this one is one that doesn't have any image, or no rank at all.

That can be arranged.

It'll be a while before more people get 7,000+ posts, just leaving the rank as nothing would be good enough.

Ok ... in case that abolishing ranks is seriously considered now from all of a sudden ... could we please meet in the middle and make it a customizable UCP option to display ranks, if possible?

Being able to switch to the previous rank images you've had sounds like a good idea. Though I don't know if that's possible to add.

I found Images of ranks, y'all. I still can't find Mario being a rank image.
I find these possible because of:

1. Your profile

2. Guessing because some are not in your profiles.

These actually have a purpose.
The hidden ones are from a custom rank or special rank.
Only to be earned by an admin.

EDIT: I worked so hard to get rank images from your profiles! Even guesses.

Nice effort. I kinda doubt though that the big fat Shyguy is an actual part of the current rank system. (SMW koopa has actually been replaced by SMB3 koopa and SMB3 goomba was only in effect for a short time)

Edit: Also, about the rank idea, having it as a toggle to show any wank you have earned and or just disabling the display; I support it full force.

This would be cool but it isn't feature of phpBB nor is there an extension to do this that I'm aware of. Ranks work on either # of posts or they're specially assigned. They aren't really "unlocked" so there isn't a system that keeps track of your previous ranks to select from.
