There is no forum rule for bad English, for one thing.

For another thing, my English is fine, even though I make frequent typos, and sometimes use a word's definition incorrectly (I recently learned the true meaning for anxious, I always thought it meant eager). Also, my primary language is English so saying this can be a bit offending.

There is nothing anyone can do about this, either. It is only fair if (since there is no other SMBX forum that supports any other language) that people from other countries use a translator, and do the best they can with their English. Regardless, it's discourteous and ignorant to say this, Joey. Please respect other languages besides English. It's disrespectful and could hurt people who don't speak it good. In fact, probably seventy-five percent of the people here don't speak this language decently. It's just the way it is, and criticizing and telling them to speak well is wrong, and will decrease popularity quick if you punish people for it.

Otherwise, I just thought I'd add that immediately locking this won't help. I need a bit of feedback from anti-staff. Anyway, here is a link to thread where Joey mentioned this: http://www.smbxgame.com/forums/v ... =50&t=2397.

Note I'm not trying to be jerk when making this post, but I'm expressing my opinion, and helping this forum. I, personally, at first considered making a disgustingly rude post; I thought twice, however.

That overall is disgusting, especially since over half of the user-base is from countries where English isn't the primary language. Like you have said, there is nothing the user can really do about it. And if anyone is thinking of saying "They could take a course in English", well that doesn't really help. Honestly, I'm a bit bothered that Joey would enforce a rule like that. It's a really ridiculous rule.

I can see saying that to somebody that doesn't make any sense, but if it's somebody that struggles with English, such as them not having it as their primary language, I think that needs to be respected a little bit.

Yeah people who don't speak English definitely need to get some more respect. It's really not fair for Joey to ask them to just improve like that. It's really not that simple.

If you must insist on penalizing people for this, Joey, which I personally think would be in pretty poor taste considering how many foreign users there are here, you should at least list it as one of the forum rules. As of now, you statement was entirely false and the rules do not even imply that you need to have good English.

OK in joey's defense he probably just got over exasperated with the whole situation in that thread, his response is not indicative of any new enforcing of rules

We only require English to be communicable, but when a user's English is so bad that we no longer have any idea what they're talking about, they need to know that

We're not discouraging non-native-English speakers to join, we simply require that they post in some understandable form of English

(and kep, tamaki was banned because he was another iteration of thealex99, not for his English)

Anyways; OT: This is an English forum yeah, but that doesn't discourage people from other countries from joining. English isn't their primary language, and everyone (I would hope everyone..) respects that. But sometimes some people just have such terrible English skills we can't understand them, hence the ban @ above post. Usually people who do join from other countries can speak English well enough to not need a translator (you really shouldn't join if you need a translator to communicate, my 2 cents)

OR: You could make an international forum, with threads for each (well known) language, for SMBX help and stuff.

My 2 cents.

The problem with this is one Knux's forum had, which was where to draw the line. Spanish seems like a gimmie, and there were a lot of German speakers on the forum, but what about Portuguese? French? Chinese? There's no common foreign nationality trend to make this system work

Most people on this forum have sufficient English skills. (Okay, Tamaki is an exception, he's likely using a translator anyways.) Complaining about typos is unnecessary to me; as long as you can understand what the user is saying, everything's alright. And the sentences that Joey referred to were understandable.

Of course we could have sub-forums for all the Russian-speaking, Spanish-speaking, German-speaking etc. members on the forums. But: Firstly, as Uncle Sam said, we'd have the problem "Which languages to make sub-forums for?", since we can't make a sub-forum for all languages and dialects in the world. Secondly, it could encourage people to join who don't speak a single word of English, and then we'd have several little communities within the big main community, and we'd have more people using translators in order to post in the English forums, which would very likely cause worse readability. I'm not entirely against language sub-forums, but I do have some worries.

No one on this forum has ever made a post to where no other use could understand it. That is why I automatically accused you of criticizing, penalizing, and disrespecting people.

A lot of people don't capitalize the first letter of a sentence whose primary language is English. I do occasionally, and for the most part having bad grammar is done in jest.

No, it's that ninety percent of the community doesn't like Joey much, and I actually am pretty respectful towards him, and have a positive attitude, even though I sometimes point out his flaws like this one about English. Where did you get this accusation, anyway? This was a nicely structured thread. No where did I specify that I in anyway didn't like him, was against him, hated him, etc.

He did a lot for this community. Making a forum theme such as this one takes a lot of time and effort. He obviously cares for the userbase and I honestly think you have no reason to dislike him.
