you know what i just realized? in super mario bros, there are 2 worlds that are set at nighttime (worlds 3 & 6). so this means that super mario bros. takes place through 3 whole days! so,
1. mario stays awake for 3 days to save princess toadstool/peach
2. mario sleeps between world 3 and 4 and world 6 and 7
but the last thing that could be possible is
3. mario is a time traveler
i wonder if this is actually true...

if this is true, then either
1. mario is using an airplane to get to different continents/worlds of the planet that smb takes place on
or...
2. the planet that super mario bros. takes place in is very tiny!

My only thought for this is that Mario is getting through World 1 and 2, World 4 and 5, World 7 and 8 in less than a day. Why? Well, if we have the thought that Mario completes World 2 by the evening of day one, then it makes sense that World 3 is night because it's getting dark, and so does World 6.

Which also explains why it takes two worlds take place during the day, and the third one takes place during the evening/night. It might take Mario two days and two thirds of a day for Mario to save the Princess if we use this idea, which is very fast. It's like speedrun in real life.

i definitely think this theory is true. if we believe this, then if there were 9 worlds in super mario bros. world 9 would be nighttime. either way, this'll still remain a mystery...

It might be the same deal in the Lost Levels. But I think that the World 9 in that game is some sort of dream realm.
