Hi everyone, I made a Super Mario World styled level called The Great Swamplands. I took a lot of inspiration from the original game, and I tried to make it somewhat like an actual level would be.
Enjoy!

Graphics used were made by Valterri, Sednaiur and Squishy Rex.

Well I made it in 1.3...
But I'm sure it doesn't really matter which version you play it in.

Of course it matters, if it's made in 1.3 you can't play it with 38A but with 2.0. And if it's made in 38A, it can only be played with it. Same with 2.0.

Oh ok. I didn't know that. I thought you could play 1.3 levels in 38A until just now. Is that because 38A is made from the ground up unlike 2.0 which is more of an extension to 1.3?

VanillaDude you are wrong.
You CAN play levels made in 1.3/2.0 in 38A however the physics will be different, layer movement too and also the extra npcs in 2.0 will be changed to the ones in 38A.

They can't be played properly in 38A then (:

This was a solid level. I liked how this level made use of three different ideas, that being the rotating platforms in section one, the jumping Cheep Cheeps in section two and the dolphins in section four, but you could've tried to connect them more, because I felt like I was playing three different levels consecutively. The only real connection these elements have is the very last bit of section four, where the player has to jump from the platforms onto the dolphins.

(The segment I'm talking about, at the very end of section 4)

In my opinion, this was the highlight of the level, as I had to jump from the platforms onto the dolphins in order to avoid the enemies and then manipulate the dolphin's jumping height so I can reach the following platforms. Still, the lack of jumping Cheep Cheeps in this part is bothering me. You could've placed them below some of the rotating platforms or between the dolphins and platforms in order to increase the overall challenge.

Furthermore, I have three relatively minor additional issues
with this level. For one thing,

Image
This pit is almost inescapable. I played as big Mario, fell off the first platform and barely managed to reach the left "?" without dying. Pretty sure that it is entirely inescapable if you play a character with worse jumps or if you fall off one of the later platforms. Just make this a bottomless pit and it wouldn't bother me at all.

Same can be said about this segment. Just remove the water and turn it into a pit.

Regarding the visuals and sound, this level certainly looks and sounds like something from SMW. There's not much else to say about them, really.

Like I said at the beginning, this level is solid. Neither amazing nor bad. It has interesting ideas, but doesn't use them to their fullest potential. If you want a number from me, have a 6.

Thanks for your review, I didn't expect much from my level, but I'm very glad you took the time to review it! It's weird, I never really thought of playing as other characters at that pit section, I guess I made it a bit too harsh. I'm glad you noticed how I tried to make it follow a consistent theme too. Again, thanks for your review, and I'm sure it will help with me becoming better at level design.

Cool level, i liked how you used your platform gimmick but i feel like instead of you exploring its full potential, you rather went with a lot of mediocre usage of your vanilla gimmicks which was bad imo as you could have focused only on the platform gimmick. The third section also felt unnecessary as the gimmick there was barely explored but if you swaped out the vanilla enemy encounters with the dolphin gimmick and then explored it alongside the platform one, this would have been a great level.
