SMM2 seems interesting (never saw the direct or whatever though, so I am honestly quite in the dark about its details; all I hear about it is it has slopes), but I doubt I'd pick it up, since I simply can't afford it nor a Switch anytime soon.

It makes sense to have a Mario Maker game for the Switch, because there's a Switch version of Mario Kart 8 and NSMBU.

Yeah I understand that, but I want something more than enemies and themes, that can add a whole lot to the game, but also feel fresh and different too. Yes, I know pipe cannons may not be the best addition, but it would feel more refreshing to have a new gimmick which would interact with both enemies, players and even blocks, as it can be used in many ways.
