Don't worry guys, SMM2 is not gonna kill or replace smbx, because it doesn't offer the customization and freedom we have with smbx.
For example, i can't create a RPG fangame in SMM2 however i can in smbx because of coding.
So yeah, i will rather use SMM2 to improve my level design so i can make my smbx content better.

SMBX has really declined a lot, starting from Redigit's C&D from Nintendo back when it is first released.
SMBX has never had a Cease and Decist. It was the Supermaiorbrothes.org domain that was claimed by Nintendo due to ad revenue and confusion caused by the name
Then we lost quite a feel important members in our community :
Valtteri, with no trace of him. Quill, saying that he would become less active. Ignoritus, only in Talkhouse.Joey, who knows. Horikawa, declined to be a judge in the future MAGLXs
.
Older members tend to get bored sooner than newer members
Lemme me explain everything about this "Declining".
First, the MAGLX3 is as silent as ever.
Second, the monthly news is long gone since November.
Third, look at the episode forum and only some of it is actually good.
1) SMBX2 beta 4 has not released yet
2) Not enough news for monthly threads to work
3) Most people can't make good episodes.

As it's already been said in a different thread. Go to the Discord(s) to see more of the community's activity.

Veterans and former staff members tend to leave when they focus more on their life. If you become busy with life you'd have to be very dedicated to this community to stick around. Joey, Valtteri, Quill, Ignoritus, ... all left it behind (Quill is talking sometimes in chat). Horikawa has left the internet altogether for personal reasons (she even decided to erase traces so pls don't ask)

Only reason why MAGLX3 is silent is that it waits for Beta4 to come. When it's out I guess the contest will happen.
The monthly news being gone is because the staff has no important announcements. Some changes have been made to the community (staff changes for the most part), right now it's just a bit stagnate.

The community has become gradually calmer, but that doesn't mean it's dying. Thanks to SMBX2's development there is a future.

They probably showcased slopes first for a specific reason

But in all honesty, I think that this game will become very popular in a short amount of time due to the fact that it has so much capability, especially with things like the Snake Blocks, clear pipes, and other such things. I also like the fact that they added snow levels to the game.

As far as killing SMBX, most likely not.
No matter how fancy the mechanics Mario Maker 2 is, people never use it properly. The only thing the Nintendo lose is the community, whether they will use it for actual good levels, or one of those rubbish JAP levels, or Kaizo Level compatible as "Make a good Kaizo X level ".
It doesn't matter, as long as people are not making good levels.

No, it won't end SMBX for sure, since SMBX is not big or small enough to die, so its going stable so far.

I honestly don't think size has that much to do with it at all

I personally love to death the sequel of SMM but let's be serious, SMBX will always be the best editor, no one else has its unique features and customizations

BTW, as previously pointed out, the game is still in beta / in development. There are approximately 4 months until the release in June.
They aren't going to show off everything in the first trailer so i still think it's quite possible something custom would be implementable into levels, whether that's custom gfx, simple coding or whatnot.
There will almost definitely be more new themes than just SM3DW, and i see it very likely that more items will be added between now and release.
Also remember that SMM had updates (though most were just patches rather than content updates) so there's gonna be more things added after release. It's also possible we will get paid dlc this time as so many people have wanted it for the original game.
I was hooked to SMM after launch, and SMM2 is just getting started. The only issue with the original was the starring feature which was needed to upload more courses. I really don't want there to be such a limit this time otherwise it will just hold back potential of longer "full games" (perhaps there will be an actual feature that helps in making those this time round?).
Anyway, i'm highly anticipating the release of SMM2, but i can guarantee we haven't seen everything (and quite possibly not even the majority of things) yet!

Beta 4 on the other hand, that's gonna be great for SMBX2. If activity has been dying at all then beta 4 is just gonna make the population go up more. Also, SMBX has been around since 2009 and SMM came out in 2015. If the official MM series was gonna ruin SMBX then that would have happened already (though it being on the Switch will be a bigger impact on us here than the Wii U original). It hasn't, though, and this year is the 10th anniversary of SMBX. In other words, this community isn't going anywhere anytime soon. SMM2 will have an impact, especially in the early months after release, but SMBX will continue to live on.

I'll stay with both sides during that time in the future.

UNLESS, there's no assets from Mario Land 2* in SMM2, then I'll stick to SMBX

I'm personally rather hyped for this game and hope for a SMB2 mode, however i also wanted to say that i doubt this community's going to die just due to this one game being out.

I recall that back when the original Mario Maker was nearing it's release, people asked this same question, and well, look where this community still is.

Also, as others have said, even though Mario Maker 2 will have alot more content than Mario Maker, i don't think they've showed off everything as of yet, and who knows, maybe they'll make a Nintendo Direct completely dedicated to Mario Maker 2 like they did with Smash Ultimate when it was on it's way out.

I'm definitely looking forward to Super Mario Maker 2, especially since Luigi is now helping Mario construct levels. I wonder if they will be like Master and Crazy Hand? In any case, I shall enjoy creating and playing levels in both SMM2 and SMBX.

I'd say the chances of that are next to zero

We can't just look at this. Nintendo may have plans on its back that's are not mentioned in the trailer. We may expect something out of our expectation.
Even though without the customization, why would people still hype for this? Simply because there are more mechanics?
But still, it would be less failure as the first one as people will make crappy level or Kaizo levels, that are more like pain > entertainment.

SMM devotees never wondered about custom graphics because even with a non-customizable editor you can still make great stuff ...

Fair enough, people will have their reasons for switching to a Mario Maker 2 like new game mechanics.
My reasons for sticking with SMBX 2 are being able to draw whatever I imagine and adding custom music so for me its case closed. Nintendo doesn't offer what I want these days.
