I think that the first one look better than the second. I can picture that one kinda in a Final Fantasy battle. The updated one looks like he attacking similar to Final Fantasy but, I think if you reverse is movement moving left to right it would look like he's dodging an attack or something. Oh I see the resemblances to between those two. From watching the video, I actually agree with you that he is hop too much. Just slightly decrease his hopping. I tried to replicate his battle stance, as he sorta hops back in forth a bit. Maybe there is a bit too much hop though.

I love the animation. I have also seen the official music video and had a good chuckle after watching it. The song is so catchy though, and the animated characters are all so adorable.
