friend, it seems unlikely (though not impossible, i guess) that Nintendo revealed all the characters before hand.

Baby Rosalina is not stupid. Like Qig said, there is a strong chance that not all characters are confirmed. And I agree with the blooper being stupid. Nintendo should really throw it back into the minus world where it came from.

The blooper is even funnier in DS/7 because it doesn't cover the map

I really liked the presentation.
Remember when Nintendo was all strict and "Anti-Let's Play"? Good times.
Now they're a parody of themselves. It's funny.

Darn, I was going to post this! Ah well, better you than me, I suppose, eh LitDude? I'm sure there are still more characters to be found, and I like the anti-gravity aspect. It really reminds me of Crash Nitro Kart's. All the features and balancing work done are two big pluses, Luigi shall soon win, and many things are blue. Yes, this game certainly looks great and fun to play!

They're really riding on this game to sell more WiiUs.
I mean, just look at the very last scene of the direct.
lol.
Not bad, though, Nintendo. Free Wind Waker HIGHDEFINITION. You already had me sold before that, though.
also PINK GOLDEN PEACH

The presentation was totally amazing. I now probably have the biggest hype for a video game that I've ever had.
Finally an item to fight off those darn blue shells!!!
I'm also glad they balanced the karts and bikes.
It's great to see the Koopalings (even though that has been known for a while already).
The graphics still look absolutely stunning. It's obvious they're putting lots of work in this game.
I like the idea of the Spin Turbo. Finally it pays off to ram other karts.
It's pretty awesome to see Yoshi Valley and Wario Stadium from Mario Kart 64 return as retro tracks. (Even though I never liked Yoshi Valley that much. It was just full of curves and except for the rotating Yoshi egg, there was nothing Yoshi-ish about the course.)
The ability to drive anywhere on the tracks thanks to the anti-gravity? Hell yeah!
The game promotion thing is pretty neat as well.
I wasn't that disappointed about the missing characters. If I wanna play as Bowser Jr., Birdo etc., I go and play either Mario Kart Double Dash or Mario Kart Wii. Both are still amazing games. And I don't regard the addition of Baby Rosalina as "stupid". After adding Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach and Baby Daisy and having Baby Wario, Baby Donkey Kong and Baby Bowser in Yoshi's Island DS, I guess it was just time to add a baby version of Rosalina. And Bloopers aren't all that annoying if you know how to deal with them.

And so the race against time begins. Chances of me getting Mario Kart 8 before July 31st is 1 in 5 but if I manage to do so I'm getting Pikmin 3 with the promotion because I already have Wind Waker for GCN and NSMBU. Fuck Wii Party U. I don't have people at my house much anyway. In the case that I don't succeed in getting it before the promotion's end, I will just get SSB4 on the 3DS as a backup(Of course I originally planned this anyhow.)

Eh dam I should've been here yesterday. Anyhoo, I'm really excited for this. Baby Rosalina and Gold Peach are pretty dumb characters though, and if they're replacing the likes of Bowser Jr. and King Boo (especially if he had his Luigi's Mansion design man that'd be cool) that'd be pretty stupid.
The courses look really good overall, although I wish they'd include more 2D tracks. Apparently there's only one SNES and one GBA track each in this. I really like what they're doing with the 2D races, though, with all the curves and stuff. It looks really nice and original.
The graphics in general are fantastic, and I'm super excited for this overall. After all, I need my online multiplayer Mario Kart to play with a friend!

It would be a waste to include more SNES and GBA tracks when this game has such a major gimmick added to it, but I kind of wish they'd do away with the limitation of 16 titles and 4 retro cups, so that it wouldn't even be an issue anyway. Then again I dunno how hard it is to balance these old tracks with each new iteration of the game and maybe they're very carefully selected for that reason.
The SNES/GBA tracks in Lightning Cup were my favourite ones in MKDS and MK7. Especially SNES Rainbow Road.
This presentation seems inspired by or written by the same people who wrote/planned the Tomodachi Life Direct. That presentation was bonkers and I lost my shit several times.
I'm watching the direct right now and I'm at the item feature part. This woman's voice is so over-the-top that I don't know whether to laugh or to jab a pen into my kidneys.

Yeah, the Direct itself was great. I like how they made it more than just a press release. All of the special features were really cool.

Well, I loved the approach they took with this direct. It shows that Nintendo can really be funny and charming when they unleash their true creativity. The most surprising features in my opinion are the ability to make highlight reels and upload them to YouTube and voice chat in online multiplayer(Although, judging by the miiverse, it would probably have more whining little kids than CoD multiplayer.) I'm also glad that there's finally an item that can block blue shells, and I hope it stays for good. The roster, on the other hand, could use more variety. I mean, come on! Half of the characters are turtles, and Pink Gold Peach is the stupidest thing I've ever seen in a Mario game. There are a ton of characters they could use. They have Nabbit, Monty Mole, Boom Boom, Pom Pom, Hammer Bro, Hell, even the Snowmads from DKC Tropical Freeze would make good characters. Hopefully, this game will have DLC that features new characters to improve and extend the roster, and other stuff. I swear, if Diddy Kong, Bowser Jr. and Dry Bones are DLC, I'm gonna be pissed because they should be in the game from the beginning, although, it'd be better than not having them at all. Am I still hyped for this game? Of course, I'm getting it launch day! I can't wait to race you guys.

I AGREE
Nintendo must add villlains. They should get back. I can't get stuck with koopas vilains a lot.

I can't wait for Cosmic Luigi and Dark Matter Bowser.
I'd be more okay with these alternatives if they were all just colour swaps that were available/unlockable for every character. That would be harmless because it would imply that the models didn't take the place of another possible legitimate character.
Not that I'm complaining. I'm firmly represented by Luigi.

Because they definitely did not just add 7 "villains" to the game.
