Rated that way due to gambling.

I find something oddly fascinating about video game (and movie) content ratings

Just playing gambling games in general is considered harmful

fair point, I never really had NSMB, only Mario Kart DS and SM64DS (which is where it came from)

PixelPest, you must have never played it. Context needs to be taken into account, and if Luigi is in it, it should be fine.

So, a gambling minigame using fictional currency is wrong, but loot boxes using real money is fine? Logic is weird.
And I know they're banning loot boxes in other countries, but still.

Loot Boxes aren't considered gambling by most video game companies and age rating companies (although it is changing, so games should get better).

I have played it. Probably one of my favourite minigames. Context plays a relatively insignificant role in film and game ratings.

The idea that gambling is considered more mature is due to its addictive nature and that it can foster dangerous habits even from a fictional setting
