It has been a while since my the last World Map contest back in 2016 and seeing that it is November, now should be a good time as any to host the next contest. I have been thinking about what would the best way to handle the judging and then I thought about both the way Level of the Month is done as well as the World Map Contests I have seen on SMWCentral. Ideally, A screenshot of the entire map, or a video of the entire map would be done and shown here in the thread. Then, we can have a poll for the best map. (The maps will not be put into anything special such as part of an episode for a contest, or such. If you do not want them to be downloadable, you can post a picture as a submission. Otherwise, you can also post a video if you like as well.)
Rules:
- World Map must be made in 2018.
- World Map must contain AT LEAST three worlds. More is fine. To be considered a world, it must:
- Contain AT LEAST three levels.
- Contain AT LEAST one entry into the world.
- Contain AT LEAST one exit from the world.
- If you would send the map for download, levels must be labeled such as 1-1, to 1-4 and so on. (This is to help me know the path to walk for the video.)
Any feedback on rules or the system used would be appreciated so I can improve what needs to be. Submissions can be either here in this thread in case of picture/video submissions or via DM for Download submission (which will then be recorded (unlisted) and posted here in this thread.)
Deadline:
Deadline for submissions is December 14th, 2018. The Poll Will last until December 22nd, 2018.

What counts as an entry and exit? Also what about the first and last worlds, how does the first satisfy having an entry and the last satisfy having an exit?

Good point Pixel Pest. For the first world, there is usually a unique point. The Entry Point of the first world is usually the "START" plate, but could easily be a pipe, a house, or anything. As for the last world, Bowser's Castle or what ever is the final level also fits the bill of a "Unique" level icon. Judging from every single SMBX world map I have seen, I can actually see a few discrepancies; so yeah. If that comes up, the participant can verify as well.

So it's not just a world map but also a level contest if you want the levels to be playable or will the levels even matter?

You dn't include levels in the map, MECH will probably use imtiredofallthiswalking to look at the maps.

So do we need to send the levels as well, or just send the world map file? Because what I'm planning on doing is to just send the the finished map file and that's it since I've already opened up all the paths available when you start the game.

BTW, who are the judges for this contest? I remember earlier on this year you asked me if i would like to judge for this, at the time i declined because it seemed that judges couldn't participate, but is this still the case?

Did you actually even read the OP?
"Then, we can have a poll for the best map" which would imply there is no judge panel

Sometimes, people miss small details like that when reading over a text, it happens to me sometimes.
Anyway, i'll definitely be participating in this contest!

One thing that was not mentioned in the OP is the system that "scoring" would be based on. E.g. aesthetics, landscape design, level positioning, etc. Obviously, if it's a poll then it may be just based on opinions but a guideline of this sort of thing could help.

A poll automatically transforms voting into a battle royale. If guidelines were desired, there would be tested and trusted judges, which would be unable to participate.

I don't know man, I think a poll lasting for a month sounds like plenty of time imo

A single weekend is enough time for everyone to cast their vote. If people care they'll remember the date.

Considering almost no one saw the thread until near Thanksgiving, I can extend the deadline. I will also note that Enjl said a single weekend being enough time. December 22nd is a Saturday, so I will keep that in mind that a week may help some. (Some people having free time only on a specific weekday could be a thing.) I am thinking about having the poll from December 16th to December 22nd to give people a week to vote. That would also mean that the Deadline for submissions be pushed back December 14th. (One day grace period so I can record all submissions and set the poll up.) I also failed to account for Midterms/Finals that would be during this time as well as the Holiday preparations people need to go through; so this extension should line up perfectly if all goes well.

Well, not really.
Your contest seems to be only "world 1" while this contest is about a whole fleshed out world map...
i could make a whole similarities / differences chart but basically, this contest and your contest can co-exist, because they aren't exactly the same.
Similarly, just because another person is creating a similar piece of media to you, doesn't mean it is copying (one good example: schoolwork, you and your classmates need to work on the same / similar tasks, and you may all get the same answer. That doesn't mean there is any copying going on though).

Both contests are very different. Please don't just randomly accuse someone of copying you

Though i do find it a bit coincidental that they were both posted on the same day...
Anyway, who else is actually submitting for this? I have a map in the works and i'd like to know if i am actually competing against anyone.
