As many of you know, the new online service for Nintendo Switch has launched today. A recap of what you get for 20 bucks/year.
Play games online (because there was totally never a time this was free)
Play NES games (this is why emuparadise died BTW)
Back up your save data (except for the games that don't let you do this)
A smartphone app (so you can do the things that the other consoles don't require an app to do so)
Special offers (That we don't know about)
So how do you feel about it?

I'd say it's fairly good, as 20 dollars for one year of the service isn't much of an investment at all and is very affordable, and I like the NES games library. (even if I'm not that good at most of the games lol) Special offers sounds interesting...but because not much is known about them at this time I can't make a jurisdiction about them yet.

As someone who only very occasionally plays mario tennis aces online and nothing else, this basically locks me out of the experience unless I pay another 33% of the game's price or very specifically plan my online sessions to be within a specific month.
I don't care about NES games.
I don't care about cloud saves (Splatoon 2 players certainly do, however).
What I'd be getting is the same thing I already had access to but now for $20 and with less potential opponents because the player base shrunk.
Nintendo's been trying a system of slowly delivering content for released products over time in an effort to maintain a long-term playerbase. Mario Tennis Aces and ARMS started out with very little content and only over time grew to be worth their money. I don't think this is the kind of strategy that should be applied in this type of service. It should be worth $20 per year from the get-go, not after a year when they announce something new that isn't an add-on to the NES library.
Some fun games that would be totally rad with multiplayer which would make that VC worth it:
Super Mario Kart (or any retro Mario Kart for that matter).
Any N64 Mario Party.
Zelda: 4 Swords GBA
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror
At least I can gather 7 friends and we can get a family membership to pay $35 dollars rather than $160 individually. For me that'll have to wait until a solid reason to cave in though. Probably Smash.
For now, though, time to unearth my 3DS and play Mario Kart 7.

The main issue is how out of touch with online gaming Nintendo is. Just hours after the release of the service, someone has already hacked the NES emulator for NES Nintendo Switch Online, and adding whatever ROMs they want.

I'm not using this (especially if they're gonna make me pay just for playing MK8DX and SSBU online). If they improve the service, then we'll see.
P.S.: Aww... someone already mentioned the hack for NES Online.
