Is SMB2 canon?

Don't know if this was asked before, I've had this doubt since I knew SMB2 was ripped from Doki Doki Panic and its mechanics

Not to mention that at the end everything is a dream (unless Mario was just asleep for enter the Dream World and fight Wart)

And the fact that some enemies like Shy Guys, Snifits, Pidgits, Ninjis and Birdo himself appeared in posterior games made me doubt if it's canon or not

It depends. If you watch the Super Mario Bros. Cartoon S1, it might be canon

I kinda like this timeline, which would suggest it is canon: http://fantendo.wikia.com/wiki/Super_Mario_Timeline. In general too, iirc SMB2 is basically a dream so it could fit pretty much anywhere

Reading the story of SMB2 it could be canon and not exactly a dream, since at the beginning Mario believes it's just a dream until Luigi, Peach and Toad find a magic door to Subcon Land...

It's confusing, but more confusing is why there was people who said Wart was Bowser's brother

I remember reading this from a "Choose Your Adventure" book with was made to promote the GBA port of SMB2

Is a "dream" to be specific, yet several of the NPCs were taken for future games

wait like do you even know what canon means. its a dream, it couldve happened at any point. heck, it couldve happened every night of marios life. its very likely that those enemies appeared in his dream because he had already seen him in real life

the entire story to the game is that mario was dreaming that he entered a door to subcon, beat the crap out of wart and saved the subcon along with luigi toad and peach. the rest is really just up for speculation

The rest appears in the manual of instructions of the game (every character saw a door leading to Subcon when they were awake)
Yet it's hard to say if it's canon or not not because the game was created just because the original SMB2 was too hard and took things from Doki Doki Panic

Oh well...
