This is my fourth contest entry, and it did even better than my previous levels! Brinstar Vegetation is a level for my Super Metroid styled project, Return of the Zebesians. It's themed after upper Brinstar from Super Metroid. I'll quote Chad because he gave it a 19/20 because he described the level well in his review. I'd also like to add that I consider this one of my best levels.
Chad wrote:It makes use of an amazing amount of gimmicks and variety of puzzles. It has doors sealed in multiple different creative ways, blocks that you can only pass through from above, puzzles that use purple Yoshi as well as freezing enemies and using them as platforms, several different wonderfully-executed bosses, multiple different themes that fit together perfectly, amazing design and exploration on top of that, and stunning aesthetics as well.
It features tons of Super Metroid elements never seen in SMBX before that I made specifically for this level. Of course they're now free to use, as long as you credit me. The revamped SMB3 coins were made by reghrhre and the hurtful giant flowers were made by GreenStache.
I played this a long time ago.
And I really love this level, The bosses are really well made, and the graphics too.
The musics fit nice with the atmosphere of the level.
Too bad than this is too hard, and the last boss ( Kraid ) is almost impossible. That would be no problem if the level don't be too long.
Anyways, this is really well made, and deserved stay on this placement

Well, Metroid levels will be long.
I really enjoyed this level, especially for the puzzle and for his bosses. The level is long, but is a bit easy too. One thing that I don't like is the amount of enemies. There was many enemies, that gives at the level much difficulty. In general, the level is very good.

Bumping this to say I will review this tonight. This looks fantastic. Super Metroid is a classic, and as a former Super Metroid hacker, I look forward to seeing what this brings to the table.

Brinstar Vegetation - Valtteri
Graphics: 10/10
Okay lets start with the graphics. The graphics of this level are just like the original, which hold a true place in my heart. These graphics really meant something to me as I played through. I have to say though, the frozen coins made no sense. As well, the crumble blocks didn't crumble... they were just there..as fallthroughs. Nonetheless, the set itself is fantastic. Bravo Valtteri.
Enemies/Placement: 6.5/10
Enemies were....not like I had expected. Being a Serious fan and hacker of Super Metroid you really get into the physics of how each enemy worked, and I can really tell you tried to match them up as perfectly as possible. There were some problems with the skrees, as they didn't contain the speed they should when they strike. As well, they don't home like you showed, instead they fly straight to where they see you first and explode on impact. As well, the Rio's don't bounce, instead they fly down each time they see you, in a swooping motion. The placement of your Rios in the second room were badly placed as well, as they would jump on me if I wasn't careful. I really loved how you added Kraid, Spore Spawn and such. Really gave the feel of Brinstar. Also your custom Kraid's Lair was great. Could use fixing, but not too bad. Kraid is a little too hard as well. I also loved that you actually added the Eye door, kudos!
Style/Asthetics: 9.5/10
I really enjoyed the playthrough of this level. The visuals were astounding. However the lag was horrific.. I cant count how many times I died to the lag. That's all really. Just the lag needs fixing for a perfectly styled level.
Items/.etc: 10/10
I have to say, it was really really smart of you to style your Items like Metroid. Hiding them in Item rooms fits the level perfectly, and I loved that you actually needed the items in order to enter other areas. Magnificent, however the Ice beam can kill the Ripper II, which shouldn't happen. Other than that, items are fine.
Overall: 9/10
Valtteri, I don't know what to say. This level could be better, however I feel like it's already good enough. You've done everything like Metroid... items, enemies, style. Really great work. The lag was really killer though, so if you could fix that up.. this level would be better. As well as the enemies physics. That would give this level a 10 in my books.
