I don't exactly know about the 2.0 editor but I did use it for a little while and I know I did not like it very much because it was so confusing (apart of the reason why I went to 38A). I know from the other SMBXs there should be a way to manually do it, like some where in like a level settings tab that says "Custom Music" and a little box by it to put the file location, but if the formate is wrong (like what Electriking was talking about), one of two thing will happen, one your custom music will just not play, or two the music will be very quiet. And also the music formate has to be .mp3 or it will not work, know it almost works in a .wav file but the music will be very quiet.

You can use .mp3, .wav (both inferior formats), .ogg(recommended) and .spc files in SMBX2. I also think .midi works.

I already tried with different formats. First, I used .mp3, but it didn't work. Then, I used .ogg, but it didn't work too. After that, I tried using .wav, but it didn't work again.

If the formate is not originally a .mp3 file, then it probably wouldn't work. Your best bet is probably to reinstall your music or try to find it on Youtube and put it in a converter. If you decide to convert it, a good converter to use is https://www.flvto.biz/ (in my opinion), just ignore all the ads (and there are a lot of them).

If your music file doesn't appear in the custom music selection window, you can try typing out the relative file path and name manually (relative from .lvl file).
If it does show up, make sure to tick the "custom" box afterwards and to refresh the level with F5.
Try if other custom music files work, too.
