level editor help

Postby pikapika200 » Sun Jun 24, 2018 4:23 am

Please help with the level editor. I can't change my block or tile from the hard block or my NPC from the goomba.

I tried that already. I can name a level editor where you don't click to switch. Super Mario Maker is the name of said level editor.

EDIT: It seems obvious by your post in the linked thread that you didn't understand (or read) it. That's why I made a gif:

liar. it is a fact that I understood iti don't use a mouse on my computer. and don't say that you can't pause youtube without a mouse, because i have a touchpad. the touchpad is tap with one finger to single-click and tapping with one finger does nothing in smbx level editor. so.single-click is not function in smbx level editor.

Please don't accuse people of lying like that. The SMBX legacy editor is pretty badly made, but it does just take a single click to change the selection.

That said, you'd probably be best off switching to SMBX2 if you're using 1.3. SMBX 1.3 is outdated at this point, and SMBX2 comes with a more modern editor.

I did a single-click and it didn't change anything. I have a touchpad, not a traditionl mouse. How do I change anything when using a laptop with no traditional mouse?

In exactly the same way. Single click. I suggest you update to SMBX2 if the legacy editor isn't working.

there is no such thing as single-click without a traitional mouse. clicking with a traditional mouse literally did nothing for me.

That's not true. Most touchpads feature left and right click buttons underneath them, and failing that, a heavy tap on the pad is often interpreted as a click.

Regardless, you still haven't followed the advice of trying SMBX2 if you're having problems. It uses a different editor that is a lot more stable.

smbxlauncher.exe is not safe and has been removed.

Added in 46 seconds:
smbx2 is a phony. smbx2 won't open at all.

Added in 4 minutes 5 seconds:
i tried a heavy tap. heavy tap changes nothing.

Added in 1 minute 39 seconds:
i have no left or right button on the touchpad. just one big touchpad with no line to indicate separation of left and right buttons.

Added in 3 minutes :
i left-clicked with a traditional mouse. nothing changed.

Neither of these are true. What antivirus are using. Have you tried adding it to your exceptions? And what are your PC specs?

Added in 7 minutes 23 seconds:
And if you are talking SMBX2.exe as the phony, then that is because it is a shortcut to the launcher, so you need that for the shortcut to even have a chance to work. But you should reinstall SMBX2 and exclude the launcher from the antivirus when it deletes stuff.

norton is really bad.
https://www.quora.com/Why-is-Norton-con ... -antivirus
(this is literally the first result you get by searching "is norton bad?")
SMBX2 is totally safe and you should go get a better antivirus. also go get a mouse for your laptop, they aren't that expensive.

"Norton AntiVirus is an anti-malware software developed and distributed by Symantec Corporation since 1991 as part of its Norton family of computer security products. It uses signatures and heuristics to identify viruses. Other features included in it are e-mail spam filtering and phishing protection.

Symantec distributes the product as a download, a box copy, and as OEM software. Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security, a related product, held a 61% US retail market share for security suites as of the first half of 2007. Competitors, in terms of market share in this study, include antivirus products from CA, Trend Micro, and Kaspersky Lab.[1]

Norton AntiVirus runs on Microsoft Windows and macOS. Windows 7 support was in development for versions 2006 through 2008. Version 2009 has Windows 7 supported update already. Versions 2010, 2011, and 2012 all natively support Windows 7, without needing an update. Version 12 is the only version fully compatible with Mac OS X Lion. With the 2015 series of products, Symantec made changes in its portfolio and briefly discontinued Norton AntiVirus.[2] This action was later reversed with the introduction of Norton AntiVirus Basic.[3] " says wikipedia.

Regardless, you should add SMBX2 to your antivirus exceptions. It likely triggers the antivirus due to the way it patches over the original SMBX program. It's perfectly safe.

Touchpad is a mouse, but not a tradional one - anything that moves cursor is considered a mouse. Some of touchpads have extra buttons, some don't, but in all of them, press on bottom-left is a left-click, on bottom-right is a right-click. On modern touchpad you can also tap anywhere to left-click and tap with two fingers to right-click. Also, tradional mouses can be cheap, so you don't have to worry and find one you like for price you can pay. It is way more better to use mouse than a touchpad
About Norton, it is an awful program, which deleted a lot of my very important files when I moved them from old PC to my new one (including a lot of my SMBX levels, not possible to recover). I recommend to uninstall it and install other antivirus. I personally use G DATA, but I'm not sure if it has free version. I recommend downloading Avast then. It is a very good free antivirus.
About editors: in 1.3 and 38A there's Blocks button on bottom. Click it, and press any block you like. In 2.0 (recommended) there's a "window" on the left with all blocks. Press one and put it down in your level.
Back to touchpad: sometimes touchpads don't recognize single tap and you need to do a double tap to press and double tap and hold to press and move.
(Also, I like how this thread began in July and still isn't solved)

As far as antivirus is concerned, Windows ships with its own antivirus in Win 8 and later, which is perfectly adequate and doesn't randomly delete files. You're probably best off using that over Norton.
