Let's talk about Smash Ultimate (And Waluigi)

Postby chuckster » Sat Jun 16, 2018 3:54 am

So, for those of you who don't know, Smash Ultimate was teased at the E3 and it looks spectacular. Now, I assume (And hope) you all know about this. Anyways, Sakurai has over exceeded our expectations. The stages look great, Ridley was interesting (BUT TOO BIG), the new moves are cool, HUD/GUI looks great, ect. However...

We have no Waluigi.

Now, I think everyone is overacting a bit about this. I mean come on, everyone was screaming "PORT SMASH 4 TO SWITCH" but instead Nintendo just turned around and dumped everything into one game (Which that isn't an insult, it's a very big compliment.) and smiled. Isn't an assist trophy great enough as is? I mean, Waluigi is always never present at all in most Mario games, but at least he made an appearance here rather than being cast to the shadows.

Anyways, enough Waluigi Time, let's keep talking about Smash Ult. Their choice for Ridley completely winded me. When I saw the teaser trailer, at first I just sat there cross-eyed thinking "Eh, alright... Strange..." but about 5 seconds later I realised how much of a cool choice this was and started screaming on the floor.

I don't think they've nerfed Bayonetta yet judging by the competition they had between ZeRo and MkLeo, which is a minor annoyance. Anyways, my friends don't main Bayo (Probably because I drilled "NERF BAYO" into their heads, hehe.) so I'll be okay. I like the new stages, however some look a little, well, chaotic. For instance, Great Plateau Tower looks extremely tight (Imagine 8 players on that. Absolute hell I tell you.) and could use some refining size wise. The returning stages don't need input, because, you know.

BOTW Link looks pretty great, however his final smash took me by suprise. I'll tell you what I thought it would be but in a spoiler because it kind of spoils the end of BOTW.
Spoiler: show
I was expecting the Bow of Light, from the final battle, to show up for the final smash.
However, we got an Ancient Bow and Arrow instead. I still respect this decision because the Ancient arrows have become quite iconic for being able to obliterate things.

The Inklings look really fun and unique, and their weapon switch system and "ink ammo" system looks very different but cool. Back on the topic of BOTW, I'm very surprised they didn't include a BOTW Zelda. I really like BOTW Zelda's character and appearance (Please be mature about this.) and would love to see her as a playable 'echo'.

Talking about Echoes, Daisy came along. I was honestly expecting Waluigi to be an echo character but no, we got Daisy instead. I swear Nintendo is probably laughing to themselves. "Hah! We got them this time! They expected Waluigi, so we put DAISY INSTEAD!" Only joking. Daisy is fine with me.

Apart from that, I can't really think of anything to point out.

Thanks Sakurai!

I felt bad for Waluigi for not being announced for Smash Ultimate as a playable character tbh. But it's for the best for Sakurai.

I hope for these 2 things in Smash Ultimate:

  • A expanded stage builder with loads of features
  • More polished story mode

I have to agree - a good stage builder (More like Brawl's and less like Wii U's) and a story mode would make this truly the ultimate Smash Bros. - even without Waluigi.
