So i downloaded some custom backgrounds and npcs. I have tried to figure out how to get them to show up in the SMBX Level Editor but they won't. I even tried looking it up on google but it never comes up with what i actually need. Am i doing something wrong? Please help.

Put them in a folder with the same name as the level in the same directory. If you want them in an entire (or majority of) episode, then you can just put them in the episode folder.

i tried that. it didnt work. i dont think i did it right.

How do i post screenshots?

I use Imgur to upload images to the forums. It’s easy to make an account, and then upload the photo. Click on the photo and copy the BBCode, then paste it in the comment editor. Easy peasy.

As for your problem with custom graphics, follow these steps and it should work.
1. Download the ZIP/RAR file of the graphics you wish to use (I assume you have did this already)
2. Open the archive, then the folder. Locate the graphic you wish to use (eg. Para-Goomba)
3. DON’T copy the folder... open the folder and copy the things inside of it.
4. Find your SMBX folder and find the world folder with the level you wish to change the graphics of.
5. Make a folder (if there isn’t one already) with the EXACT SAME NAME AS YOUR LEVEL.
6. Inside the folder, paste the files you copied earlier.

That’s it! Note that you should restart the level editor or reload the level file for the graphics to load up.

i did that but not only is it still not showing up, the level editor wont show default backgrounds.

You can't link files directly from your computer. As has already been said, you need to upload them to the internet and share that.
