If we go by themed teams Anything Goes if you can convince me that a certain legendary fits your theme lol

Not all UBs are banned from OU. Showdown provides a list of the Pokémon by tier and lets you know whether a Pokémon is viable or not when you try to validate your team for a tier.

Btw if you wish to have a "themed" Showdown here's an idea.
It's actually a gametype called Monotype.

You can only have 1 type that is a majority with subtypes not really being a matter for example

Gyarados Water Flying
Ludicolo Water Grass
Greninja Water Dark

Majority is Water type... Where the subtypes could help counter any sort of weakness.. Gives some strategy

It'd be like fighting a Gym Leader where they're forced to use a certain type but have pokemon that have subtypes

With some extra rules...
Only 1 Mega can be used
No UBs or (Major) Legendaries(Usually the ones banned in say Battle Tower (in-game) (i.e Mewtwo,Lugia Ho-oh, Rayquaza, Groudon, Kyogre, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Arceus, Darkrai, Reshiram , Zekrom , Kyurem Yveltal, Xerneas, Zygarde,Volcanion, and Hoopa)

If they use any of these they're Dairy Queen'd Disqualified

I was thinking one step further actually

Imagine - Bird-based Pokémon except they CAN'T have the flying type.
It would give you something like Blaziken, Decidueye, Empoleon, Porygon-Z, Golduck, Aromatisse
That way you get a well-rounded team. I'm not opposed to Monotype, but I'd think it'd be even more fun with crazier themes lol

Shuckle can't have Baton Pass iirc. I remember using it in Anything Goes in the last and it's super OP to do that.

I often also have a Shuckle on my team but I've reworked my strategy and redone my entire team.

Also I'd like to do monotype in the future. It's a pretty fun tier. I'd be slightly opposed to themed teams as I think it could be off-putting to people who may not know Pokémon well and get stuck who still want to participate

The idea behind themed teams was that people would use Pokémon they don't normally use and aren't often used outside of their respective tiers so people would be forced to come up with new strategies and people who are well-versed in competitive would not necessarely have an advantage over people who aren't since anything could happen lol

But yeah, I'm not opposed to monotype either. People were also mostly in favor of themed teams so we might have to run another poll for the next tournament lol

If you get into monotype it honestly isn't. I have a handful of monotype teams and they cover their weaknesses quite well
