What if Yoshi was really the most devilish menace in Mario history?
And that Yoshi's role in SMW was just to distract Mario so they could help Bowser defeat Mario? (This would explain why Yoshi never goes in the fortresses)

Yeah, but too many throwbacks are never good. For example, In pretty much every sonic game, the first level is green hill zone. It gets boring once there is too much of it.

Wasn’t that cancelled Mario game for the CDI supposed to take place in the real world? Maybe they can reuse old ideas from that game and put them in SMO2.

Honestly, I think Nintendo should just leave it at Odyssey and not do any 'sequels'. Sure, do other Mario games but they perfected Odyssey and I think they should leave it as is.

Doom 2016 has some throwbacks to doomu.wad, and yes, one does not simply add too many throwbacks.

The game's been out for not even three months and we already want a sequel!

While I haven't played Odyssey yet, I'd like to see more playable characters with slightly different abilities, like SMB2 & SM3DW (but hopefully with more characters - I need Waluigi!). A 2-player mode that's not just the Mario & Cappy thing would be cool. A Subcon-type kingdom would be awesome too, preferably with an appearance by Wart.

actually you know what just remake smb2 with multiplayer that'll be good

This isn’t an idea for an SMO sequel, it’s for dlc, but I’m writing it anyway.

What if we got Super Luigi Odyssey? It would be like New Super Luigi U meaning you explore the same worlds but the moons are different. Nintendo would use the original assets from SMO (just like NSLU) and maybe add a few new ones. Most of the costumes will change to fit Luigi. I’ve already thought of a story for this dlc:

Luigi was watching Mario and Bowser fight on his airship. He wanted to help Mario fight Bowser, but the ship was too high to be able to reach. When Mario was launched to the cap kingdom, Luigi went inside the castle. Inside the castle, he finds a person from the cap kingdom. He says he came to the mushroom kingdom for a vacation, but Bowser invaded and everyone in the mushroom kingdom is really scared without their princess. His vacation was ruined. Luigi and the hat team up like Mario and Cappy to help save the mushroom kingdom. They find a painting to the cap kingdom and enter it.

Luigi will go to each kingdom in the same order as the original. When he gets to each kingdom, the main mission will be different from the originals since Mario already solved those problems before Luigi. For example, when Luigi gets to the moon kingdom, he won’t be fighting Bowser in the wedding hall since Mario already did that. Instead, he fights Bowser outside, because he’s left there after Mario flies away with Peach.

Speaking of Odyssey, it's currently 7th on the eshop charts. Funny, Zelda, which won game of the year, isn't currently above Odyssey.

How about this idea for SMO2:
  • Have some of the beloved flying power-ups from past Mario games (From 2-D & 3-D Mario games) in Odyssey 2

How about randomly generated worlds? (I think the term for this is pre-generated) It would be really nice to get a brand new, completely different way to play each time you enter the game. Too bad that this is harder for 3D games than 2D ones, but other 3D games have done it in the past, so it could work.

Yeah, I have a similar problem idea. Maybe they could make an endless mini game of randomly generated or randomly selected linear stages. That would be really cool. They could even add a leaderboard to compare scores online.

Well, it's not perfect, but its good enough to possibly be ruined by a sequel. Personally I think: yes, they should keep Cappy (I love Cappy) and make another game staring him, but maybe in a different style to Odyssey?

Maybe in Cappy's next instalment we could see Nintendo actually have a real challenge that requires you to do some trick jumps.

•being able to store a transformation as a reserve powerup, which allows for level design that makes use of both mario and his transformations at once
•replacement of easy moons with moon shards, a few of which make up a moon of full worth
•repurposement of moons into aspects outside of powering the ship, perhaps as a type of currency after you have finished a kingdom (only accepting that kingdom's moons), to give exploration in the postgame more value
•these could reward the player with tougher challenges, since the players are guaranteed to be familiar with the game if they have collected a large number of moons for these shops
