Hello!
This is my first level ever posted, and it is a test level for an episode. I know I could just wait but I'm impatient AF.

Just looking from the screenshot, the colours are too painful to the eye, i suggest lowing the saturation for the gfx,

The colors should be eye-soaring. It's just a little experiment. You'll get used to them after you play it a thousand times or what.

Anyone played the level? If so, sorry for wasting your time, eyes and brain cells.

Admitting a sort of joker attitude here?

All jokes aside, I'd like to just hear from you if you'd waste your time on an episode made of levels like this one. I doubt, but there is always hope...

No, that's really not a selling point at all. Make your graphics colored but not hurtful.

Hi there, KekBrother. I downloaded your level and this is what I think after playing it:

- I like the fact that you're trying to bring that retro SMB3 vibe to it, which can be seen in the music, sprites and colours of the blocks and backgrounds. However, I do have to agree with some other users that the pink colours might get a bit painful to look at after some time. Perhaps playing around with the colours and seeing if making them more mellow would have a better effect on the eye?
- The level feels short and I don't recall seeing any coins throughout the way (only a few inside blocks).
- The part with the Piranha Plants from the moving pipes can get a bit tedious. Perhaps only have two or three instead of six of them?
- I didn't spot any obvious cut-offs or bugs which is good.
- There isn't much exploration to do as it's just one single linear section.

Overall, the level is a cool throwback to level 1-1 from SMB3 but it feels a bit short-lived. It's not necessarily a bad level but I just didn't get that "Wow, this is pretty cool" sort of feeling. I do appreciate the "nostalgic" custom graphics used in it though. I'd give this 5/10.

Does a level need to be explorative/nonlinear to be good? That's what you're implying and I don't agree. Also why does a level need coins?

Linearity is not necessarily a bad thing in itself but it heavily depends on other factors (e.g. length of level, difficulty, auto-scroll etc.). This level in particular could've used one of the pipes as an entrance for a bonus area or perhaps clouds or something higher up in the sky - these are all suggestions. Take some of the levels from "The Restoration" as an example where players could explore and that brings an extra layer of curiosity for the player.

As for coins, they normally bring a level of challenge and fun for players. Ultimately, they're one of the best ways to get 1-ups (which is crucial when levels are part of an episode obviously).

I would disagree given how game overs work in SMBX.

Thank you all for commenting!

@Shadow_Flame: Thanks! Yeah, the level was a "pre-demo" (wtf does that even exist) of an episode that I'd like to make. The GFX was meant to be retro-styled, but I see your point. Yah, the level was quite short and bland, I agree. I'll work a bit on my level design.

@Electriking: I quite don't understand them, since what is the point of 1-ups when after your death everything is the same, progress is the same + you get three free lives, but nvm.

A fun Easter egg: Use tanooki suit's power!
