Bots and AI

I've wondered about two things about robots and AI. One is why are bots nearly always supposed to be female either by name or they're given a feminine voice if they can talk. Second is why (mostly in fiction) they're given male/female voices for some functions over others, and likewise monotone or not based on their function. Is there something to this?

Because the typical female voice is softer than the typical male voice.

What about bots without voices but are overwhelmingly likely to be called a female name?
