My believes that X can be a symbol of crossover platforms into one game... like SMB, SMB2, SMB3, SMW and several other themes smashed together into one game and called it SMBX which honestly is very clever once you think about it.

If X is a symbol of crossover, then why 1.3 only got Link as a crossover character? Also, maybe because of Redigit named it.

Legend has it that Redigit was held at gunpoint by one of the devs (who shall not be named) and was forced to add Link as a character because Link is their favorite Nintendo superhero and they wanted to see him in SMBX.
