You can talk about any software that you can reccomend upon other people here.

I found a cool program called Lego Digital Designer. It's where you can build your own lego creation without buying lego pieces.

f.lux is pretty good if you don't have Win10 or an iPhone.

i'm recommending 2 programs.
If you want to make 8 bit music, I recommend Famitracker. It takes some learning and at first the Interface can be confusing, but watch some tutorials and it won't seem so intimidating. It can also export songs to files that the actual NES used (NSF) so it can be used for playback on the real hardware or emulation.

If you want to make Genesis Music, Gameboy Music C64 Music, and others i recommend DefleMask. The Interface is a little bit more confusing and to make Genesis music you'll need to know FM Synthesis for the instruments, but there are instruments on the Deflemask forum so you wont need to worry about it.
Deflemask also exports to files that the original hardware read.

It still might be software, but the most obvious piece of software he could've mentioned.

DraStic for Android. it's an awesome emulator that allows you to play DS Games. However, for some reason, my save states didn't work.

I use Mac OS, and I enjoy it.

Logic Pro X (9 was also pretty good) is my preferred digital audio workstation, though I also like Audacity for quick edits. I like GIMP for editing pictures on Windows, but the Mac port has major lag issues to the point that it's basically unusable for larger images.
