Emuparadise a well known site for roms and emulators has been target by Nintendo, and all roms to Metroid, Kirby, Mario, Zelda aka their own franchises have been removed.
What do you think about this?
Do you think they will target more?
Will they maybe target non rom sites?

Fair use is our only weapon. Also, it should be fine as long as you dont make money off it.

Well, distributing ROMs online is technically illegal as far as I know.

That is right, it's just strange that they did this just now and not long before

You can't compare that with roms, idk how it's handled on youtube but there are sites which allow streaming tv shows like netflix for example.

With the ability of monetization, which means making money from streams, the people who made these spongebob streams are making money from those episodes, which is illegal by the way.
Maybe you should look at this to see what I'm talking about

You shouldn't worry about that. They will be sued soon or later and have to face the consequences.

Of course they will just probably on a different site. You can't really stop people from uploading them, it's basically the same with Pokemon Uranium and the metroid fan game from last year.

I just wonder why they waited so long to do it.. they kinda just did it before/after announcing their new games which basically have been Kirby, Metroid etc

They did get what they want. It basically stopped SMBX from developing for 5 years (although Redigit did kind of stop developing before the C and D). Also, SMBX is not a ROM.

If they've targeted Emuparadise, it's no doubt they're looking for other sites that have ROMs
