Tbh the judge rosters for these contests are kinda like a "hey I want to try judging it might be fun" basis but really especially for a contest like this I don't really care about the results personally

This contest is mostly an experiment that I wanted to try out and isn't suppose to be competitive.

The latter. All of these levels are random levels that got low scores.

Does introducing a gimmick or changing/adding graphics count as "a complete overhaul" or am I allowed to do these things?

You're allowed to do those things as long as the original level is recognisable.

How old are these bad levels you're taking? Because people who make bad levels are often younger children (Not always the case, it's just most people start making levels when they're like 11 and have no clue about what level design even is) who have more difficulty taking criticism and taking their levels might make them feel like they're irredeemable
