Story Depth

When you're browsing different games, do you typically search for games that have a deeper meaning with hidden messages to be discovered when you play again? If so, is there any certain point where a story goes from "deep" to just getting the player to be like "what does it mean what does it mean?" For me games that use ambiguity for most of its message seem to be less and enjoyable, and pretentious at best. That being said, when you can recall to certain parts of the story that seemed somewhat insignificant at first, it makes a much better story to me. This is the reason why I enjoyed The Last of Us, because the ending when and many of Heavy Rain's alternate endings.
