So a lot of you have heard of the NSMB. And I was just playing NSMBWii and then this though hit me: "How will the next NSMB game gonna be?" So I decided to hear you guys' opinion. Will it be like NSMBU or what?
For those who doesn't know the NSMB series is a series of four games that are 2.5D. The first game was released in May 2006 and was called NSMB. It has been a tradition to make one or two NSMB game each third year, so maybe the next game will probably released next year and maybe announced this year.
So year how do you think the next installment will be?

I figure that if there is one, it won't be for a while since it's followed a one-game-per-system pattern so far (I'm not counting NSMB2's DLC or NSLU as that's an expansion). However, if a new game came out, I'd probably still want to buy it. It would have to be creative to be impressive of course, but I still very much enjoy the core mechanics of Mario gameplay, so I'd likely have fun with a new title regardless.

I'd actually like Nintendo to expand upon the 3D World of Mario. Every New Super Mario Bros. game seems to be a different level pack re-using gimmicks that were already seen in the previous installments. I'm thinking that Nintendo could come up with a new gameplay mechanic and build the game around it, like they kinda did with Yoshi in Super Mario World.

that's wrong, 2.5 games are 2d sprites that move in a 3d enviroment, see Klonoa for example, or Tomba

No, 2.5D can mean a lot of things, and NSMB arguably falls into one of these definitions (3D models in a 2D world). Games like Super Smash Bros. or the more recent Kirby games are considered 2.5D as well because they have completely 3D graphics, but you can only move on a 2D plane.

On topic, I think (think) Nintendo said that there will only be one NSMB per console, so we won't be seeing another game for a while. Hopefully the next first-party Mario game will be more Galaxy than NSMB, although I LOVED 3D World.

I used to like 2D Mario games, but that was before I ever touched a 3D Mario game which was surprisingly a few years ago. I never liked Super Mario 64, but the Galaxy games and 3D Land and 3D World were particularly an enjoyable experience.

I think that the next installment to the series of the 2D Mario world would be New Super Mario Bros. and the Lost Yoshis. The whole "new" thing is stupid, since there's nothing new about it but I'll include it anyway. The Lost Yoshis would be a game where there's eight world and one bonus world, and you have to beat the diabolical Yoshi clones and they each have a special attack (for instance, the blue one would be in ice world and spit out hurtful iceballs). After beating the diabolical clones, you save the regular Yoshi and then he would tag along in your adventure. During playing a level, you could use a Yoshi you've already rescued from your selection screen to help you out. Only the true hero could get all of the Yoshis and beat the final boss... whoever that would be.

It's a bit of imagination, but it's very well possible.
