Hey guys, it's me, Lungi. Some of you might remember me from the NSMBX forums (I was the mind behind such "classics" as Scorching Sands, Knockahadum Fields and POW Block Factory). I know it's not really normal to start with a full-blown episode, but hey. The way I look at it, this isn't my first post; that was on NSMBX.

Anyway, here it is, Super Mario Redemption (formerly known as Super Mario Unleashed). I changed the title to better fit the events of the game, FYI. It's an ambitious project spanning 8 worlds consisting of between 6 and 12 levels, borrowing elements from Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario 64. Each level contains three Star Coins, which, upon collection, earn the player one of 120 Power Stars. Certain levels also contain a second star, which is well hidden somewhere in the level. As well as conventional levels, most worlds contain a town, which has three Power Stars hidden throughout. I've spent much longer than can be considered healthy on this game and I sincerely hope you enjoy it!

Story:
Spoiler: show
Legends tell of the Star of Creation. This star was the first thing to exist in history, and it was a source of unlimited power. Using all of its magic, it shaped the universe as we know it. However, in doing so, it divided itself into 120 Power Stars, each containing a fraction of its power. It is said that, if all 120 Power Stars are united once more, the Star of Creation will reform and anybody will be able to use its power...

Disease is spreading throughout the Mushroom Kingdom, and Power Stars are suddenly in abundance. Is this related to the Star of Creation? Who was behind this wicked epidemic? These questions will be answered in Super Mario Redemption!
Playable characters:
Mario (default)
Luigi (unlockable)
Toad (unlockable)

Worlds:
World 1: Viridian Valley [grassland]
World 2: Desolate Desert [desert]
World 3: Idyllic Islands [beach, ocean, underwater]
World 4: Quartz Quarry [canyon, cave, factory]
World 5: Perilous Playroom [toy]
World 6: Winter Wilderness [ice, snow, mountain]
World 7: Temporal Towers [ruins, clockwork, sky, time]
World 8: Sacred Scorchlands [lava, volcano, temple]

Graphic credits:
Most custom graphics are taken from Red Yoshi and supermarioman's Ultimate GFX Pack.
The title font was designed by BMATSANTOS, the world map tiles were made by zephyr, and the tileset in 1-2 was found in an Invasion 3 level.
I probably missed many other people, so be sure to tell me if you know who made any other graphics.

Demo 1.5 (Contains an entirely complete World 1, 3 levels not in the Unleashed demo, 2 towns, 17 stars)

Most of the screens lack coins and enemies and overall look bland wih nothing really going on, so I'd recommend you added some more coins and enemies to them.

Honestly, it look very impressive for a first episode project!

Just add a bit more tiles and it would be perfect! ;)

This looks pretty promising. Though a lot of the screenshots are empty. It'd be good to add some BGOs, blocks, enemies, coins, and/or pipes to spice things up.

That seems cool! In addition, you used the graphics of my level ;) , but I think you should expect more levels like mr. Boboo and the snessy.

But it seems that the tiles of the world map are somewhat misplaced.

Oh yeah, I messed up the world map. Oh well, it won't take long to fix that. Also, now I think about it, yeah, I really should add some BGO and some coins, especially in 1-7. That level will probably be completely redesigned in the next demo.

I'm kind of picky when it comes to episodes, but this actually looks really good! I would recommend what Snessy recommended, but regardless I might download it when it's done.

Thank you all for the positive feedback. I appreciate your criticisms, and I'll get to work on revamping World 1 and starting work on World 2 ASAP.

Ok sorry, I'll try...then: i'm so interested because the level design seems done well.
And cuz some biochemical process in my brain has been activated i suppose.

World One looks very good. Even with mashups of different Mario games.

The plot it's a little "meh" but I think that the important thing it's the substance and the levels.

In conclusion I can sentence that it's interesting

Yeah, I certainly don't think this game will be winning any Oscars for storytelling, but really, it's a Mario game. I might still try to change things up a bit and try to lay off the edge, because the game was originally intended to be really dark, like Shadow levels of dark. Don't ask me what I was thinking there.

Well I do love how you're keeping faithful to Mario 64, but I am looking forward to playing it! (If I get some free time!)
