Hey guys, i have been meaning to update the topic since 3 months but i still don't have all of the required assets to do that but expect a update soon where i will write everything about my topic in a new fresh format that is easy to go through and i will talk there about my new concept called Assist Characters. Also every screenshot showcased before this post is OUTDATED as i am going to re-do 90% of the levels or more to fit with my new vision of the project.
Well for now have this.
Spoiler: show
So you are going to redo ~72 levels? Well, good luck then.

No, my actual progress was around 40-50 levels however some of them are trash, super hard and super long and i never wish to put any player through this hell experience, playing games is about fun and my old levels were just UNfun and i want my episode to be fun to play for everyone.
So lets say half of the levels go to the trash or something, thats only the unfair super hard long levels which nobody likes, well then we have the rest of the levels, i will redesign them to fit with my new concept Assist Characters, i have already redesigned level 1,2 and i am working right now on level 3.
I am aiming for my levels to be fun to play and contain at least near Contest Quality or else i won't be satisfied with bad levels.
I am also trying to gather level designers and i have an idea on how to do that, i have already 2 people who are willing to be a level designer but i haven't showed them yet how levels get made for SMN. I am also putting more effort into the gameplay in the demo than the story as the point of my future demo is to showcase most of my gameplay concepts and get feedback on them, there will be story but it won't be that big compared to the rest of the episode.
Also the planned level count might go even more down as i continue to plan ahead and get an idea on what i want to do gameplay wise and story wise.

This is exactly why short projects are king. Easy to wrap up and shove new ideas into future projects of similar length and time commitment. Welcome to the vicious cycle of redesigns.

Haha, you are right Enjl. This is the biggest curse of making projects, the time when you improve and sudenly your past levels become poop.
Well, i have gone through 3 burnouts, i have a server with over 130 members which most of them want me to successed with this project, i have planned 90% of what the demo should be and i have a decent dev team that for now its mostly used to beta test stuff, give me feedback on adding new gameplay features, help me with the story and i have recently got my first ever graphics designer which is a big achievement for me. I am also getting some support from people like Eclipsed who are willing to advertise my stuff and i will soon have some level designers to help me out with the levels of the demo.
So yeah, i don't want this project to be very long, i just want it to be long enough for me to be able to tell my story without making it rushed and to be able to explore a lot of the current and future possible interactions with my new gameplay concept, Assist characters. I am trying to find a way to make it shorter and to be able to plan ahead as i don't want to spend 2-3 more years on working on this project because one day in the near future, i will get more busy and i will have less time to work on this project and this will be bad so i want to be active now and try to find ways on how i can make my project shorter but be able to explore all of these ideas, interactions and story stuff without rushing them and to be able to leave me and my dev team satisfied.

So you're going to remake almost the whole project? Man, that's almost the same count of levels that are planned for my project...

Well yeah i will remake it but now with more experience and actual planning and a new gameplay concept in the forms of Assist Charactes.
Look, i don't want to release a bad smbx episode because i want people to have fun when playing my episode, i want them to enjoy them and for that, i have to start new and still i want to reduce the level count so i will see what happens after the demo gets released.

Gee, good luck with everything in your project. As Miyamoto said though, "A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."

You can't just say something like that. I really enjoy creating and recreating my levels and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

in this case I'd not only call this a redesign but a new design :>

Recreating/Redesigning your old levels to fit with your new skillset can be fun however when there is a very big gap between your old level design skills and current, then it becomes a very time consuming task that can easily demotivate you to continue doing it. This is the effect i am currently experiencing so i try to take few breaks in between to be able to continue redesigning my levels.

I don't think there is that much of a difference between the two if you say you are redesigning your whole levels.

Whether or not you enjoy it doesn't change the fact that you're making negative progress on your project. I've been revamping my episodes for years, but I'm not making negative progress because they were already finished and released before, granting the benefit of having TWO rewarding releases, rather than potentially none.

That's why I don't scrap level structures, I only add stuff. That can be called "No progress", but not "Negative progress"

Well what you are describing is improving your levels by expanding them, its a whole different case when you redesign them as you remove a certain amount of stuff in the level to put new ones on their place.

Thank you for following me until now and for all of the support I got!

What are all those different icons for (the ships)? Levels? And what are those symbols underneath the boats for (hearts, skulls, what appears to be a p-leaf)?

It's a mystery...

However, what I can tell you is that these are a way to travel around the world map and access more levels.
