Miyamoto hasn't ruined paper mario (yet)

Postby Chara Dreemurr » Thu Jan 19, 2017 10:56 am

Paper Mario Color Splash... People are hating on it (and sticker star) because they "arent the old games"... well Goodie gigabites for you, but i honestly dont see the hate... sure the games ARE different... but isnt that what SUPER PAPER MARIO was? Super paper mario was different, it was good... sticker star was made to be done in bite sized pieces, so if you were on a bus you could do a level before you got to your stop... but Color Splash was made to be a larger game while still sticking (snort, sticking) to the formula of which was actually kinda fun, miyamoto is the creator of mario, and he hasnt ruined the games... if anything he made them fun off a game series that's rpg formula was dying (no SPM is not included in that, i count it as a game on another plane of awesome). so stop hating on that game nintendo is trying... (If only The Creators of SPM would come back...)

The creators of the Paper Mario games stated in an interview that Miyamoto was against their original idea for Sticker Star and wanted the game to be more "Mario".
I really enjoy Color Splash and think Intelligent Systems did a good job at polishing the formula they established in Sticker Star, even though the battle system still has flaws.
That said, though... I adore TTYD for its characters and storyline and wonder how Sticker Star would've looked like if Miyamoto didn't reject the original concept.

Sticker Star was pretty descent lack of characters and quality.
I have no idea why Color Splash was actually called Sticker Star 2 as I didn't say it. I think it's an inspiration, between Sticker Star and Color Splash. Nah no..
Super Paper Mario has a good story, between platforming style and RPG style.
The Thousand Year Door is my favorite game rather than Paper Mario 64(aka Mario's Story either SMRPG 2)
Paper Mario (64) has a good partner ability tho, Idk.
Is M&L Paper Jam Bros. counted as Paper Mario games ? Because Paper Mario and Paper Luigi was in there. Even Paper creatures.

I really don't know if I'll pay it any mind when the next Paper Mario comes along but recent Switch announcements make me wonder if things will swing back in another direction.

Maybe they'll decide that the Paper thing has been done. On top of that, Nintendo has done pastel art, and clay, and yarn. I feel like I'd more likely be down for something newer. How much can you really do with paper? On the N64 it worked in the absence of a lot of 3D modelling, and before that Super Mario RPG used pre-rendered models as sprites to save space. "Paper" Mario was something born in part out of a limitation and it gave birth to some creative ideas, but after 5 games, what's really left to try with that base concept?
