Help! ATTENTION PLEASE to a SILLY NEWCOMER

Postby No Username » Wed Nov 30, 2016 1:32 am

I am planning to download SMBX. I am now a Reggie Level Editor user, but that is way too complicated. :?:
I want to ask a few questions and get to know about SMBX. Is it good? Can I play my game on a SNES or NES emulator or whatever? Can I convert the files? Hope you can help me! Thank you! ;) :P

P.S. 1: I mean the game I create. Can I convert the SMBX file to the .nes or SNES playable file? Thanks KOJIMKJ.
P.S. 2: Thanks King of Eterity.
P.S. 3: Very useful. Thank you, Wohlstand! ;)
P.S. 4: Forget the emulator thing. Is there a way I can play my complete Mario SMBX file on a mobile phone?
P.S. 5: Can I export the complete game as a standalone EXE? Also PLEASE answer the P.S. 4 question.
Edit 9:
P.S. 6: The questions I am asking now are:
  • What is the relationship between the two softwares mentioned above and the level editor SMBX?
Which would you prefer, SMBX 1.3 or SMBX 2.0 Beta 3? Which one is easier to use? (Coz I am a beginner. I've already downloaded SMBX Ver 1.3.0.1.

SMBX doesn't require any emulators =I. And you should watch some tutorials on youtube, that is what I did =P

You should get PGE as that is easier to use. SMBX 2.0 includes it (there is an announcement thread about including a download link when you browse a forum).

If you wish to do a ROM-hacking, you must search specific utilities for every game (Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, 3, ...) (there is a lot of them)

But already replied that SMBX itself (and PGE Engine which a WIP successor of it) is a hybrid editor and game engine to play levels and episodes. (PGE designed to have separated but communicating editor and engine applications to allow distribute made games without editor and for mobile devices)

PGE has a WIP level editor for Android but I don't think it actually allows you to test levels yet. I'm not sure about the .exe thing, but I don't think it's possible

How good if SMBX allow users to export standalone exe games! It'll look more, well, professional and more convenient.

I'd say less convenient because right now episodes are packaged as .zip/.rar archives that are just extracted and put into the worlds folder of SMBX. A .exe file per episode would just be a waste of space and download time imo. And it's SMBX, no matter how you put it it's not going to be professional

Sorry for inconvenience, but I actually mean playing my complete game on my computer, not sharing to other human beings.

Why would you need an exe to play it yourself? If you put your episode into the worlds folder, you can just play it by launching SMBX.

Android version is a small experiment and doesn't actually supported and it's very outdated. I going in future have the own base for Android which will be different from desktop one. That assembly is based on desktop version and it sucks especially on phones. Primary I wish have Engine worked on Android than the editor.

About NES emulators - there are a lot of them can be found on Play Market. SMBX Engine itself is desktop only, PGE Project is targeted to support mobiles in nearest future.

May I ask what's the difference between SMBX 1.3 and SMBX 2.0 Beta 3?

I think, you need read comparison between legacy editor (built-in editor of SMBX Engine) and PGE Editor (which using as alternate editor for SMBX Engine until PGE Engine will be completed)

I would recommend you download the 2.0 open beta, as it comes with a lot of new features like LunaLUA! Also, spoilers are often regarded as a way to hide large images or text walls!
