It looks interesting.
I'm still calling it the NX though.

It's not a tablet though, it's a home console that can be portable. It's no different than the Wii U's gamepad. Think of it that way.

It should be able to run better than the Wii U. I'd give it the capabilities of the XBone, at the least. PS4 at the most. Any higher than that is pushing it, for what people assume the price is going to be.

That shot of what appears to be SMG 3 got me ready to dance around!
While it does look more like Galaxy than 3D Land/World, it also doesn't really look like Galaxy. I suspect it's a new kind of Mario game altogether, probably a new successor to 64, as Sunshine and Galaxy were.

But this is a console, not a tablet. Just because it has a screen on it doesn't mean it's a tablet. Is it touchscreen? Yeah. But, fun fact, you can fit a screen onto anything and it'll most likely work. The gamepad itself isn't as thin as a tablet is, either, so there's room to cram whatever you want into it. I suspect that the dock will do something other than charge it and allow you to use it on your TV, but we don't even know the specs of it yet. We just got a preview.

Being a console does not exempt it from being a tablet (although if you want to be really correct the best term would be an AiO PC, since it's a PC with a screen built in).

I remember when I could attach a controller to my iPad and my monitor.

I could easily argue that an iPad is a console since it can be used to play games and is a tiny computer. Was it necessarily designed to game? No, but it's very easy to turn into a casual gaming thing. Also, someone could use a console for something other than games (such as a home theater setup), so technically a console can not be a console.

Looked pretty thin to me. Also, there is no defined thinness for a tablet PC.
It has about the same width as the Wii U gamepad and the 3DS.

So you're saying designers should give up and not try to fit things into smaller things? That's part of design, to get things to work while looking nice. TV's don't have GTX 1080s in them because... they don't need them? Companies don't put ice cube makers into their toasters because there's absolutely no reason for those two things to be together, just like there's no reason for a higher powered, expensive graphics card, built for PCs and gaming consoles, to be implemented into a television. Putting something like a GTX 1080 or an equivalent into the Nintendo Switch though? That makes sense, because it's a console, and it needs that to function.

Yeah, I remember there were a few rumors about that. It seems pretty evident, too; in the trailer, Wind Waker was running at a lesser framerate when just using the tablet as opposed to docking it.
Oh? Did it now? Which video did you watch where it showcased Wind Waker being played? I don't recall ever seeing Wind Waker being played on the Switch, and I certainly didn't notice any FPS drops from when they were playing on the dock or off the dock, aside from the ones during the Breath of the Wild parts, but they then cut to playing Skyrim Special Edition (an optimized remaster of a 5 year old game), which I would imagine takes up a ton more resources than Breath of the Wild (a game still in development, so it's likely unoptimized).

You're part of a minority (or you're the only person to my knowledge) that's calling it a tablet, and I don't understand where you're coming from or what point you're trying to make in even calling it a tablet. Are you criticizing it and saying it will run bad because of that? We literally got little to no information on how the console will perform other than the neat, innovative features. You shouldn't judge a book by its cover, just like you shouldn't judge a console by its teaser trailer.

Always excited for a new Nintendo console, but...still haven't gotten a Wii U. I wonder if the price will go down soon?

I'm not personally worried about third party support so much. I think Nintendo knows they have to pander to third parties a bit to ensure their success. I have to believe at this point that they learned from what third party developers were saying about the Wii U.

The device is just beautiful. I love the colour. I love that we're moving on from the gloss. It would be awesome to be able to bring that device to work or whatever and race somebody in Mario Kart while on break without having the complication of needing two devices and two games.

What has me curious is how, if at all, any of the Wii U's tech is being utilized in this device. Does anyone know what I mean? After Wii Motion+ was developed, motion controls were on the next Nintendo handheld. After dual screens were established, we got the Wii U with ultra-low-latency syncing to get a second screen on home console play. There seems to have been a trend of technology being refined and put to new uses in these new systems, but we've had wireless controllers forever and that's what these detachable cheeks from the face of the device amount to being, aside from the form factor being really awesome. Could there be a wireless performance enhancer that you could keep in your pocket for when the device is a handheld? I noticed what seemed to be a frame rate drop for Skyrim and Breath of the Wild. Is there a way to bring these back up to 60FPS, or is it simply a byproduct of the fact that these games were developed in a way that isn't perfectly optimized for the way the Switch works? Is there a way to ensure that future third party games will be optimized for the Switch even if they're primarily developed for PS4s and XBOnes? Or is it not a frame rate drop at all and I'm just hallucinating?

I would be pretty surprised if amiibo support didn't continue.

My guess is that you can still sync the new pro controllers to the handheld device even if it's not on the dock, allowing for there to be more players to connect. I have a feeling people will have to buy that controller separately, but they'll have the thing that you can attach the cheeks to and looks like it works just fine as a controller otherwise. Just predictions.

I can't wait to grab it by the cheeks.
My brain was automatically mapping how I'd jump through that terrain as Mario. I think I've played too many damn Mario games at this point lol

As far as anyone is concerned, and I think Nintendo announced this at one point or another, they were dropping the motion controls for the NX, which is now the Switch, and it doesn't appear to have any sign of motion controls. As for Wii U features, like the gamepad, I think those were all thrown out the window as well.

Guess you could say Nintendo really is making a switch.

Something else I later thought to mention: I'd love to see what other potential there is for connecting parts to the system. or if there's a stacking device of sorts, where you connect it to the sides, and then add the joy-con things at the ends. I'm imagining things like additional button mapping layouts or even just battery support. I noticed in the video that the Switch slides onto some kind of mini bracket as well so you can play it in the car. Will the Switch be able to slide onto other things than just a bracket? There's a lot of potential. Modular phones have been a thing lately as well where you snap an addon to the back of the phone. I've seen zoom lenses and even mini projectors on the back of a phone. These are just examples that really don't have much to do with gameplay but it just goes to show that there are still some major possibilities here.

Or they could do something like that one Legend of Zelda puzzle where you have to "press the maps together" or something by putting the DS in sleep mode. I never played the DS Legend of Zelda games, but I was there when my brother accidentally solved that puzzle; it was a memorable moment.

I'm DYING to know more about that new 3D Mario!

Unless that was just a tech demo... I doubt it. It looked way too good to just be a demo.
