It's usually the high risk topics that get deleted. Somebody once posted a crowd funding link to raise money for a new computer setup (on a site that's meant for more serious charity like health or food/shelter), and that thread got deleted. Lower risk topics just get locked but not deleted.

Junk posted by spambots is obviously deleted along with the spamming account being banned / pruned.

YoshiEgg, you can simply ask a question like this on chat or a staff member in private etc.

So yeah, topic gets a deletion if it's really out of context or something... but it could be anything really. If it's at least relative to the discussion and such then it can keep it but if it's spam relative or something then it's surely reasonable why it shouldn't be there.
