Widescreen Support? (16:9)

Super Mario Bros. X always has this 4:3 ratio going on. Can we get a widescreen update to expand the field of view?

The screen size has to be 800x600 because that's the minimum room size. Anything bigger and one-room sections would have to be black around the ends

If you're in fullscreen mode on 2.0 there's a way to toggle between 4:3 and widescreen mode. However, widescreen just stretches the display. One reason is that changing the aspect ratio/amount of level being displayed at once would do one of two things:
1) if we don't modify the spawn and despawn conditions for NPCs you will see enemies pop in and out of existence as they enter and 3 seconds after they leave the 800:600 area in the center.

2) it will require a lot of work to adjust this and, beyond that, adjust the way sections scroll (to prevent usually offscreen cutoff). Other problems which couldn't be fixed would be potential compatibility loss with enemies that were carefully placed. Not to mention - what would happen to one-screen sections?

Yeah, but they are already putting so much into 2.0
Can't they just modify it? It shouldn't be too much work.
Besides, Just imagine how much better the splitscreen in 2 player would be...

Hahahahaha.

Okay no seriously. Enjl explained why this actually IS a lot of work, and we're both on the development team for 2.0.

This is very unlikely to happen any time soon, and IF it ever does, it will probably be a per-episode optional setting of some kind. Enjl already explained why.

I always wanted that too wide screen/wider 2-player. Obviously, if it wasn't designed that way, it would create obvious problems, however, if you throw a shell, it will still smash blocks, open things, and seems to kill things off screen still I think. Are those objects / NPCs spawned on the fly, or they're invisible, or are enemies not killed off screen as easily? Just curious, not expecting this to be done.

Objects are spawned as they come onscreen, but they remain spawned for 180 ticks (about 3 seconds) after leaving the screen boundaries, which is why you can still hit things that are offscreen.

Yeah I know this topic was back in 2016 but...
you could just add custom borders in one room (800 x 600) sections.
SMBX 2.0 PGE Editor will not allow you to do this. It Can Only Be 16:9.
