Projects Forum Rules

Postby Shadow Yoshi » Mon Aug 15, 2016 6:38 pm

Welcome to the Projects forum! This is the place to post episodes that are a work in progress. Before you start, though, you must realize that creating a project is a much larger endeavor than most people think. It requires lots of time and effort, and projects are notorious for not being finished. In order to curb the amount of unfinished projects in this forum, we have some rules in place; you should also check out the Example Project Thread, which can help you out as well.

RULES FOR PROJECT CREATORS:
  1. Projects must exist. Concept and idea threads aren't allowed in this forum. You must have considerable progress on your project before posting it.
  2. You must post screenshots with your project. Not following this rule will result in your topic getting deleted. Screenshots are the best way for others to know if your project is interesting; they also provide evidence that your project exists. Videos are acceptable, but screenshots are preferred.
  3. You must have at least the same amount of screenshots as the amount of worlds you say your project is going to have. If you want your episode to have 10 worlds, you should have at least 10 screenshots. If you're making a hub episode, you must have at least 20% of the levels you say your project will have in screenshots. This means if you have a 50-level hub episode, you need at least 10 screenshots.
  4. You can post multiple screenshots that are clearly from the same area of the same level, but only one of these will count toward the amount of screenshots you need. This doesn't always look good from a thread presentation standpoint, so you may just want to stay away from doing this entirely.
  5. If you want to withhold any screenshots from your Project thread, you can PM the required amount of screenshots to a Moderator or Admin. If they agree, you can post your Project with the amount of screens you want to post.
  6. All of your screenshots must be saved as 800x600 or 400x300 lossless images and must also be embedded into your post. This means no JPEGs and no fullscreen/stretched/blurry images. 400x300 images are encouraged if you have a lot of screenshots. Full-level or large screenshots such as those taken with PGE are okay (as long as they are not JPEGs or stretched/blurry), but you may want to put them in a spoiler. In addition, your screenshots must be embedded (using [img] tags and a direct link from a site like Imgur) rather than putting them on another site and linking to that site.
  7. You don't need to put everything in spoilers. Screenshots, large blocks of text, and anything that takes up a significant portion of the page can be in spoilers.
  8. You don't need to specify what characters/powerups are going to be used in your project. If you've added a new character or powerup that isn't in SMBX, feel free to mention it, but the best way is to just include it in the screenshots.
  9. Feel free to include stories, logos, and other miscellaneous information. Keep in mind, though, that what matters and should come first is the quality of the levels in your project.
  10. You shouldn't ask for huge teams. If you need a lot of people to work with you on your project, chances are you probably won't do as much for it. Having a few people help out with levels and graphics is fine, but don't go overboard.
  11. Double posting and bumping topics is fine, except in certain cases. If you have made progress in your project, feel free to double post/bump your topic. However, bumping a topic just because it isn't getting any activity is not allowed.
  12. Take constructive criticism constructively! People who give you constructive feedback on your project are trying to help you become a better designer. Even if you disagree, please be respectful. If you think someone is giving you criticism that isn't constructive, use the report button and the staff will take care of it.
  13. Make your project realistic. Having a 100-world episode with 50 levels in each world isn't a feasible scenario. If you consistently create projects that are locked/unfinished, the SMBX staff may choose to remove your ability to post topics in this forum.
RULES FOR THOSE POSTING IN PROJECT TOPICS:
  1. Constructive criticism only. If you don't like someone's project, either explain why or don't say anything at all. Repeated violations of this rule may result in removing your ability to post in this forum.
  2. Don't go around to project topics asking to test them. If project creators need beta testers, they will post about it. Beta testing isn't just a free pass to play peoples' episodes - it requires work to find bugs and help improve the project before its final release.
If you follow these rules, you'll be on your way to a great-looking project.

Minor update:

If you want to withhold any screenshots from your Project thread, you can PM the required amount of screenshots to a Moderator or Admin. If they agree, you can post your Project with the amount of screens you want to post.

Project threads not following the rules in this thread will now be deleted, with a PM sent to the original poster to state what they did wrong.
