Whenever I try to test my level I'm currently making (BTW I'm very new to SMBX), the PGE window running the test of the level lags really badly. It's still entirely functional, but, like I just said, very laggy and thus not as fun to play with compared to if it was not laggy. Is there any way to fix this? (Strangely enough, an older computer my dad used to have (which I got from him) runs the testing engine perfectly, at 60fps, if not near that amount. That's probably due to how much less content that laptop has compared to mine.)
(Also, quick note, a few months ago, I deleted LOADS of (mostly) PNG and MP3 files from my computer, approximately 35K of those two combined, but I don't remember the exact number. I do know it was around 35K images and MP3 files, though. What's weird about that is that my computer did not speed up a significant amount AT ALL.)
What I think are some possible problems:
* I have a crudload of stuff on my computer, as a little more than half of the memory on it is taken up. Most of it are PNG and GIF files that I just find on the Internet or make myself.
* My computer is getting old. I got my computer, a Lenovo Ideapad, back when I was in 5th grade (currently I'm on summer break and going into 9th grade when summer ends), so probably around 2011-2013. My computer's processor (which is an Intel Core I5) is also fairly outdated compared to what's available now. The problem is, I cannot upgrade my graphics card into something better, because I have a laptop. Geez, if more laptops aside from Alienware gaming laptops and (possibly, my dad told me about this but isn't sure about the latter) ASUS laptops accepted external graphics cards... (My brother's desktop at home is godlike in processing due to the Hulk-level graphics card, and he can run DOOM 4 at MAX GRAPHICS, no problem. Dang. My computer is utterly trash with processing games, however, but it USED to run Team Fortress 2 very well.)
* I have quite a lot of stuff on my task bar, but it doesn't stretch BEYOND the normal space to the point where there is an arrow for other options. I currently have these include on the taskbar (though not limited to) - Windows File Explorer, Firefox, Photoshop, Skype, Audacity (probably one of the worst problems in this case), GIMP (Another art program), Discord (basically a video-less Skype), Lego Digital Designer (which I NEVER use), Windows Movie Maker, and some others. I'm currently on Windows 10.
* I have too much stuff running at one time. Probably most of the lag either comes from my multiple (currently 5) instances of Audacity running, or my Firefox browser, which, while playing on a Nintendo DS emulator, DeSmume, it lags up a ton (not to the point where's completely unplayable, however) before I close everything else.
