The popular forum game that separates the good from the bad, the strong from the weak, and the loose-cannon cops from the slightly schizophrenic. That's all after we figure out who's who, of course.

M30: We are the 70.58% - Postgame (Player Analysis Complete)

Postby Julia Pseudo » Fri Jul 15, 2016 4:19 pm

Long ago, the people of the nation lived in harmony. Everything changed when the corrupt politicians attacked.

Mafia 30: We are the 70.58%
Cardflip - 17 players

Corrupt Politicians
Dictator: Always protected by guards; can go into super paranoid mode twice throughout the whole game to kill anyone who visits him that night. (details below) (ExKyo)
Military Man: Can beat someone up each night to make them cardflip black until the next night. (Spinda)
Propagandist: Can set one message to be displayed to the whole game in the phase transition message each night. (details below) (RezsurXion)
Doublespeaker: Can fake a lynch vote by sending the host a PM with their real lynch vote. Votes in the thread will not be counted. (Kyo Saito)
The group conspires to kill one player each night and all members have contact with each other. They win if they eliminate the terrorist militant guy and equal or outnumber the Rebel Alliance.

The Brave Rebel Alliance
Goodguy Politician: The only honest politician left in the nation, s/he still has old connections that s/he can use to inspect one player each night and learn their cardflip color. (PaperPlayerX)
Commando: Can kill one player each night. Loses ability for one night if s/he kills a townsperson. (Supershroom)
Conspiracy Theorist: Can set one message to be displayed to the whole game in the phase transition message each night. (details below) (Nien)
Rebel Medic: Can protect one player each night to protect them from being night killed. Cannot self protect. (details below) (Zeldamaster12)
Hippie: Can protest outside one player's house each night (during the day lore-wise), preventing that player from voting on the following day phase. (details below) (Waddle Derp)
Concerned citizen: Just going about their life, doesn't really care about politics. Would generally like the rebels to win. (MosaicMario)
Concerned citizen (PixelPest)
Concerned citizen (Ness-Wednesday)
Concerned citizen (Nuclear_Blaze)
Concerned citizen (Doesntpostverymuch)
Concerned citizen (Bomber57)
Morally bankrupt individual: Still on the side of the rebels. S/he cardflips red, though. Thinks s/he's a concerned citizen. (MECHDRAGON777)
They win by eliminating the corrupt politicians and the terrorist militant guy.

Terrorist militant guy: Literally doesn't care about anybody except for his small band of militants. Can kill one player each night. He will call one of his medics to save himself if he is night killed, rendering him immune to night kills (details below). Wins by being the last player standing. (Sanct)

Role Details
Spoiler: show
Dictator: Retaliation against visitors is considered a night kill - if the Rebel Medic protects the Commando who visits the paranoid Dictator, the Commando will not die. Abilities still work against a paranoid Dictator.
Conspiracy Theorist/Propagandist: Plain text only; it will be marked as a player message as well, so it cannot be used to fake kills or saves. Max 250 characters. Messages from both roles are indistinguishable from each other and are displayed in a random order.
Rebel Medic/Terrorist militant guy: A message will be displayed in the phase transition message if the Rebel Medic successfully protects someone, or if the terrorist militant guy successfully protects himself. These messages are indistinguishable.
Hippie: The Hippie's ability affects the Doublespeaker's ability to vote as well. The affected player will receive a host PM informing them that their vote has been disabled, and will not be allowed to "fake" votes in the thread (i.e. they will not be allowed to post in bold red text for that day).
- Power usage and lynches are optional, but all players should display signs of activity.

Role PMs
Spoiler: show
Role PM wrote:You are the Dictator! You are an eccentric and reserved despot with a paranoid streak. Each night, if you choose to, you may become especially paranoid and surround yourself with guards, killing anyone who visits you that night (you will still be affected by the ability), but you're only paying them enough to do this twice throughout the whole game. You will also conspire with your fellow corrupt politicians, <player> (the Military Man), <player> (the Propagandist), and <player> (the Doublespeaker) to make someone "disappear" each night.

Your goal is to eliminate the terrorist militant guy and equal or outnumber the Rebel Alliance.

By the way, don't forget to PM Pseudo if you're not using your ability! This will allow the nights to end sooner.
Role PM wrote:You are the Military Man! You are the angry and buff face of the totalitarian government. Each night, you can beat someone up and leave them unrecognizable, making them cardflip black until the next night. You will also conspire with your fellow corrupt politicians, <player> (the Dictator), <player> (the Propagandist), and <player> (the Doublespeaker) to make someone "disappear" each night.

Your goal is to eliminate the terrorist militant guy and equal or outnumber the Rebel Alliance.

By the way, don't forget to PM Pseudo if you're not using your ability! This will allow the nights to end sooner.
Role PM wrote:You are the Propagandist! You are the head of this totalitarian government's relentless propaganda machine. Each night, you can release a message to the public that will be displayed the next day. This message can contain up to 250 characters of whatever message you'd like to present. However, this message will be indistinguishable from those released by the Conspiracy Theorist who opposes you. You will also conspire with your fellow corrupt politicians, <player> (the Dictator), <player> (the Military Man), and <player> (the Doublespeaker) to make someone "disappear" each night.

Your goal is to eliminate the terrorist militant guy and equal or outnumber the Rebel Alliance.

By the way, don't forget to PM Pseudo if you're not using your ability! This will allow the nights to end sooner.
Role PM wrote:You are the Doublespeaker! You are a low-level politician obsessed with committing small acts of voter fraud. During the day, instead of voting in the game thread, you may vote by sending Pseudo a PM containing your real lynch target. You are still allowed to fake votes in the thread, but they will not be counted. You will also conspire with your fellow corrupt politicians, <player> (the Dictator), <player> (the Military Man), and <player> (the Propagandist) to make someone "disappear" each night.

Your goal is to eliminate the terrorist militant guy and equal or outnumber the Rebel Alliance.
Role PM wrote:You are the Goodguy Politician, the only honest politician left in this corrupt nation. Although you've sided with the brave Rebel Alliance, you still have connections with the government, so you can ask for a favor every night and learn the color of one player of your choice.

Your goal is to eliminate the terrorist militant guy and the Corrupt Politicians.

By the way, don't forget to PM Pseudo if you're not using your ability! This will allow the nights to end sooner.
Role PM wrote:You are the Commando! You are an ordinary citizen who has taken up arms against the corrupt government. Each night, you can storm into someone's house and kill them. If you kill one of your allies in the Rebel Alliance, however, you will be demoralized and unwilling to do anything on the next night.

Your goal is to eliminate the terrorist militant guy and the Corrupt Politicians.

By the way, don't forget to PM Pseudo if you're not using your ability! This will allow the nights to end sooner.
Role PM wrote:You are the Conspiracy Theorist! You're a little crazy, but probably overall right in your stance against the corrupt government of your small nation. Each night, you can release a message to the public that will be displayed the next day. This message can contain up to 250 characters of whatever message you'd like to present. However, this message will be indistinguishable from those released by the Propagandist who opposes you.

Your goal is to eliminate the terrorist militant guy and the Corrupt Politicians.

By the way, don't forget to PM Pseudo if you're not using your ability! This will allow the nights to end sooner.
Role PM wrote:You are the Rebel Medic! You are a brave member of the Rebel Alliance who seeks to help their fellow citizen in their campaign against the corrupt government. Each night, you can visit one player and protect them from being night killed (you are too busy treating others to treat yourself, by the way). If the player was going to be killed, the following message will be displayed during the next day phase:
Medic message wrote:Someone tried to kill <player> last night, but a brave medic came to their aid!
Your goal is to eliminate the terrorist militant guy and the Corrupt Politicians.

By the way, don't forget to PM Pseudo if you're not using your ability! This will allow the nights to end sooner.
Role PM wrote:You are the Hippie! You just want everyone to live together in harmony, maaan... Each night, you can prepare to protest outside one player's house, preventing that player from voting on the next day. They will receive the following host PM:
Hippie message wrote:You wake up to see a smelly-looking hippie protesting out in front of your house. You don't really want to deal with them, and decide not to vote today. (please do not write in bold red text during this day phase, unless you're the Doublespeaker)
Your goal is to eliminate the terrorist militant guy and the Corrupt Politicians.

By the way, don't forget to PM Pseudo if you're not using your ability! This will allow the nights to end sooner.
Role PM wrote:You are a concerned citizen. You're just a regular person who doesn't like the government much but also isn't really doing anything special to help the rebels, you know?

You might have no morals, but you can't say for sure.

Your goal is to eliminate the terrorist militant guy and the Corrupt Politicians.
Role PM wrote:You are the terrorist militant guy! You've been a rebel longer than any of the other rebels, but you don't really care for them any more than you do the government. In fact, you really just want to get rid of all of them. Each night, you can kill one player. If someone tries to kill you during the night, you will call upon one of your medics to save you (automatically), preventing your death and displaying the following message on the next day:
Medic message wrote:Someone tried to kill <player> last night, but a brave medic came to their aid!
Your goal is to be the last player standing.

By the way, don't forget to PM Pseudo if you're not using your ability! This will allow the nights to end sooner.

Death Messages & Leaks
Spoiler: show
Night 1
PaperPlayerX was wide awake in his bed sending a text message to Spinda, and was too distracted to realize that someone was coming at him with a knife.
PaperPlayerX has died!

SPECIAL REPORT INCOMING!
The Mafiaville Times published this document, believed to have been leaked from a government agency! But these days, it could just as well be propaganda...
• “It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all out of gum.”
They also published another message from a similar source...
• “The other message in this post is the propagandist's btw, so he's probably lying”

Day 1
It seems that we have an INSTA on our hands!

Wait, that's not right... someone must have tampered with the votes.

But the townspeople had already gotten their torches and pitchforks ready, so they jumped at the chance to lynch Supershroom!
Supershroom has died!

Night 2
A soldier-type person broke into Zeldamaster's house looking to assassinate him, but they only found a dead body - someone else had already killed him.
Zeldamaster12 has died!

SPECIAL REPORT INCOMING!
The Mafiaville Times only received one message to publish this morning, reading
• "The information center would like to ask you to not play like a mongoloid for the next phew phases. Thank you."

Day 2
The citizens gathered in the capital again, determined to send a message to the government that they were not happy. They decided to kill Nuclear_Blaze and leave his body on the doorstep of the reclusive palace, for they suspected that he was a prominent agent of the regime. Unfortunately...
Nuclear_Blaze has died!

Night 3
Bomber57 was preparing a bomb to attack the capitol building when he was shot.
Bomber57 has died!

Waddle Derp was derping around when someone pulled a bag over his head. They never found the body.
Waddle Derp has died!

SPECIAL REPORT INCOMING!
The Mafiaville Times received another message from an unknown source...
• "I apologize for not contributing much, I can't particularly get any leads because everyone is playing like dogshit so it's hard to get reads, including me. So yeah rip."

Day 3
Another insta!

The people rallied against the government that had made almost all of their powerful allies disappear. They managed to capture suspicious individual ExKyo, and they proceeded to leave his dead body on the stairs of the capitol building. And, it turns out they were right to suspect him! (probably...)
ExKyo has died!

Night 4
Ness-Wednesday was writing the latest chapter of Rise of the Shadow Kracko when someone broke into his room and shot him.
Ness-Wednesday has died!

Nien was playing Dota with the rest of the Dota Crew™ when someone grabbed his computer and smashed it on his head.
Nien has died!

The Mafiaville Times didn't publish any government leaks this morning.

Day 4
It's another insta!

The town suddenly rallied against PixelPest, who had been one of the loudest voices among them for a long time. And, well, he was trying to help all along.
PixelPest has died!

Night 5
MECHDRAGON777 was arguing about whether the government had already won or not when someone shot him.
MECHDRAGON777 has died!

RezsurXion was filing a name change at the government offices when soldiers rushed the building and shot him.
RezsurXion has died!

SPECIAL REPORT INCOMING!
The Mafiaville Times published another message this morning. Everybody's pretty clear at this point that it's nothing but government propaganda, though...
• "All hail Sanct"

Day 5
The citizens of the city state of Mafiaville had a few arguments, but quickly decided to send Doesntpostverymuch's body as a message to the government.
Doesntpostverymuch has died!

Night 6
Kyo Saito was sitting in the governmental palaces of Mafiaville, plotting his next act of voter fraud with his close ally, General Spinda, who was blowing the dust off of his gun after putting a hit on their last political enemy, MosaicMario.
(MosaicMario has died!)

As they discussed Kyo's upcoming and long-awaited vacation, shadowy terrorist leader Sanct, a wanted man who had evaded the government at every opportunity, broke through the doors and shot Kyo Saito. Spinda beat him up before anyone could tell who he was.
Kyo Saito has died!

Spinda raised his gun at Sanct, but Sanct was ready for that and he dodged the bullets, Matrix-style. He had only brought one bullet, though, so it was a bit of a stalemate. As Spinda ran to call for reinforcements, who were running short lately, Sanct ran for his equally small (at this point) band of militants. As they returned to fight each other in the town square, they both realized that even if they defeated each other, they were no citizens left to rule over.

"Maybe we should call a temporary truce," said Spinda.
Sanct silently nodded, and, still facing the corrupt general, slowly backed away...

That was the day that Mafiaville split into two even smaller city states, one governed by fearsome warlord Sanct and the other by the old guard general guy, Spinda.
The CORRUPT POLITICIANS and the THIRD PARTY both win!

Congratulations, Spinda and Sanct! This is an unprecedented and unexpected endgame scenario, but I think this is a much fairer outcome than a knife-in-the-box between two active players.

(and thanks to everyone else who played too)

Final phase change

My personal thoughts
Crazy crazy game. The mafia just happened to kill/cause a lynch on a bunch of blues really early on mostly through luck, and then stayed hidden for pretty much the rest of the game, especially Spinda holy shit! He's probably the MVP for this game, him or RezsurXion, or Sanct who were also fantastic. They were extremely good at getting bandwagons on and stuff and generally had the game in the bag, I'm super surprised that Sanct managed to clutch out a crazy win there and am extremely impressed, that's what, the second third party win on this forum? Good shit. But, if I'm being totally honest, not such good shit from the town...

Player Analysis
Spoiler: show
Ness-Wednesday: Concerned citizen. Not too active, pretty much just jumped on bandwagons. This is normal for new players, but you should still be more active if you return to Mafia in the future! Townsperson activity is important for success.

PixelPest: Concerned citizen. Very active, and he tried to be useful, but he ended up lynching a lot of townies anyways. Had good intentions and a good mindset for Mafia, but it didn't really work out for him so well.

Zeldamaster12: The Rebel Medic. A pretty valuable townsperson who was relatively close to discovering important things, he might have been a bigger help had he not been killed on Night 2. He didn't protect anyone on Night 1 though! He did protect Waddle Derp on Night 2.

RezsurXion: The Propagandist. Extremely valuable member of the mafia who planned a lot of the group's actions. He didn't use his messages very much, or for very important things but the mafia still beat the town in the end so it's not that important. He did a good job of keeping himself hidden all the way to his death.

MECHDRAGON777: The morally bankrupt individual. Big improvement from previous games, MECHDRAGON! In the past, you've often ended up getting yourself lynched, rightfully or not, early on, but here you provided a lot of valuable statistical evidence in the late game. He was lynched for including himself as innocent in those lists, at least partly (which is standard suspicion list behavior, by the way). Good stuff from you in any case.

MosaicMario: Concerned citizen. Active, but ended up jumping on a lot of wrongful bandwagons (and started the lynch on PixelPest). He managed to last until the very last phase, though.

Doesntpostverymuch: Concerned citizen. He actually did post a lot, and had very good activity from the moment he was called in as a backup. Unfortunately, he ended up jumping on a couple of wrongful bandwagons, like much of the town. Still, fairly good showing for a first time Mafia player here.

Spinda: The Military Man. One of the central mafia members, along with RezsurXion, he gained the trust of the town through various modes of deception very skillfully. None of his paintings ended up really mattering, even though his last was technically successful. Still, they made sense at the time and his general performance as a mafia member was great.

PaperPlayerX: The Goodguy Politician. He died on Night 1 (that's the third time that the mafia has killed the sheriff on night 1 in my games, bizarrely) but was pretty active before that. Not a lot to say, since he died so early.

Waddle Derp: The Hippie. He was probably the town's MVP. His ability targetings made a lot of sense, in terms of trying to avoid damage from those who had lynched townies already. He did a pretty good job of putting together a semi blue alliance, and there wasn't much he could do about all the blues who had died early on.

ExKyo: The Dictator. Intentionally laid low in order to avoid suspicion, which eventually caused him to get lynched. He didn't use his ability when requested to by his team either due to reading the PMs too late in the phase, which didn't turn out too well for him in the end. Make sure you pay attention to what's going on even if you're playing the inactive game!

Sanct: The terrorist militant guy. MVP of the whole game, as any winning third party has to be. Even the mafia didn't suspect him until Night 5 or so, which is really impressive and shows how well he was able to hide his identity, just by acting like a townsperson. Things really kicked into high gear when he started killing mafiosos too, which was important for his victory in the late game.

Nien: The Conspiracy Theorist. Gave his identity away too well in his Night 2 message, before even claiming, though it may have been on purpose. I don't really understand why he claimed, there's not really much of a point to that IMO since the role is designed to work in secret and he could've just claimed to Waddle. He was one of the more level headed town members anyways, though.

Bomber57: Concerned citizen. Didn't do much, especially since he didn't realize the game had started until Day 2 or so, which was not entirely his fault since the game started so late. He wasn't that active after dropping in either, though.

Kyo Saito: The Doublespeaker. An effective mafia member, though not quite to the same degree as Spinda and RezsurXion. He didn't fake any votes, although he didn't need to since so many townspeople were being lynched anyways. He did manage to force an insta on Night 1, which was good for his team. Good stuff, though he didn't do much in the early game.

Supershroom: The Commando. Didn't do nearly enough to defend himself on Day 1 - in situations as dire as this, it's usually considered good to claim as a blue even though it's dangerous, especially when the doctor is likely still alive. He didn't really deserve the lynch anyways, in any case.

Nuclear_Blaze: Concerned citizen. Shouldn't have claimed as blue untruthfully, especially in a game where green is guaranteed innocent. Lying about being a blue is almost always a bad idea in any case. Good activity, though - hope to see you, Supershroom, and DPVM back in the future.

Welp, I really have nothing to say besides, I TOLD YOU THAT THE MAFIA WAS GETTING EXTREMELY LUCKY.

Also, do you realize how I would have reacted if PixelPest was mafia a 4th time in a row? I would start to think you were making him mafia on purpose.

But i played terribly and I feel terrible about it.

What should I say, lawl. Especially since Spinda was Mafia in fact. (yeah, that would have also been pure luck if he was lynched on Day 1).

New game, new luck, fellows.

I understand the comments you made regarding this game, praising the third party and mafia. Thing is, there honestly wasn't much I could do. I tried setting up an alliance, however all of the important blues had already died by then. It was pretty much hopeless from day 2.

If I'm being honest, maybe we should have the host signups immediately, because some people who died early on would probably like to play as soon as possible (Maybe I could get one of my friends to play mafia again who knows).

Yeah it seems interest in this game is at least somewhat renewed with these new users and such. New host signups will probably be here in the near future.

The blues fell super fast. Supershroom didn't defend himself that well and got himself lynched, Nuclear_Blaze lied to Waddle Derp about being blue for whatever reason, PPX was a gut feeling kill according to Rez, and of course me, Nien, and Waddle Derp died pretty quickly as well. I got the blue alliance established, but we all died before we could all get together. TNT ragequit due to saltiness, and Doesntpostverymuch didn't play too well. Mafia played the Town extremely well, and so did Sanct. I actually thought PixelPest was TP after I died but after he flipped green, I knew it was Sanct.

Honestly, this game wasn't that great. Not because the game itself, because your game was excellent, Pseudo. It's simply because the Town played pretty terribly. I'm a good sport though, so gg.

I fucking knew it was your Sanct. My last message was all hail sanct because it was trying to get the one town vote to lynch you off.

It was a fun game and the best Ive played as a mafia member especially my first game back.

I am surprised I didnt die sooner. PPX was also my first choice to kill and the rest agreed, and supershroom just sorta happened. ZM12 was our next target together Spinda and I thought of so we kill him off. After that WD claimed hippie and Nien was obviously the last blue to us.

I only wish we killed Sanct sooner, I had a really itchy feeling especially after Ness died that Sanct was TP.

Good game guys.
