Two Towering Trees (SMB2 Styled Level) (Updated)

Postby RhysOwens » Tue May 10, 2016 5:11 pm

Two Towering Trees

First you climb up the left tree and grab the key, then
you go climb down and unlock the door in the right tree, then climb up
that and outside and go left to the boss hut.

Update:
The first section has been extended and coins were added and a few other modifications.

This level is cool.
But you should add more backgrounds and items (like coins). The trees are so empty...
And you should add a "grass section" between the two trees. Or a sky section before fighting the boss. Your level will become longer and not so repetitive

Review of Two Towering Trees

Level Design/Gameplay (weighed 70%): 3.0/10
This level wasn't very fun to play. A lot of it was cramped, bland, and the backtracking in the first tree was very unnecessary; you could have just placed a door at the top. Although there wasn't any cutoff, the level wasn't appealing from a design point-of-view due to the lack of coins and the placement of NPCs. Some NPCs especially seemed to be overplaced (such as the Cobrats in the first tree). The boss battle wasn't very fun. It really focused on the graphics to make it interesting because the Birdo would just fall off its platform and then end up being a normal Birdo battle without anything special except for unfairly sped-up projectiles. This level overall had a pretty good atmosphere and concept, it just wasn't well executed.

Graphics/Sounds (weighed 30%): 7.1/10
Not all of the graphics fit perfectly in this level, but for the most part it was okay. They didn't really help develop the atmosphere and unleash its full potential in this level even though really could have (using roots, moss, etc.), however they didn't take away from the level either. The vanilla music fit fine, although I can even think of a few musical choices off of the top of my head that would have fit this level better.

Overall: 4.23/10 (Average)

But If I put a door at the top of the left tree that would've mean't I was right next to the boss door.
Also you might be playing the old version, I added coins to the new version.
