background graphic errors in SMBX 1.3.0.1

Postby Mindwipe » Wed Mar 05, 2014 4:50 pm

Hi all,

I have just discovered SMBX so I'm still a noob. I have tried to solve this issue on my own but I suck too much. I am experiencing background graphic errors in SMBX 1.3.0.1 After two days of "tinkering" around I have decided to ask the experts here on the board for advice.

Running WinXP (yes XP :)) I have just upgraded my Nvidia drivers to the latest version and also uninstalled and re-installed SMBX several times with no change. I cannot find anybody with the same problem. All youtube videos seem to play perfect for others.

Everything runs smoothly but the background is usually messed up. I have tried about five episodes and I get messed up backgrounds in all of them. Sometimes the background is just off and sometimes it "shakes". Sometimes it looks like parts of the background are missing and the movement of Mario and/or enemies cause a comet tail effect which can be seen in my screenshots. I have included 4 screenshots to give you guys an idea.

Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated. It's not the end of the world, but it sure would be nice to have proper gfx. Thanks in advance.

Uninstall 1.3.0.1 completely from your computer, and then reinstall it from this link.

I have actually never seen anything like this before. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance!

Can you post the specifications (disk space/RAM/etc.) for your computer? They can be found by going to Control Panel and then finding "System".

Sure....

WinXP service pack 3

AMD Athalon 64 X2 dual core 4400+ 2GB ram

Nvidia Geforce 9500GT

Plenty of hdd space :)

The comp is fairly old but sill does the job as far as playing older PC games etc...

Hm, that doesn't look too bad. Again, sorry I can't be of much help. Sometimes users don't have enough RAM to be able to run SMBX, but 2 gigs should be fine.

Do you have the latest version of all of your display drivers/DirectX/etc.? You can go to Windows Update (or whatever the equivalent is on XP) and see if there's anything you can download.

Yes, I'm up to date as far as DirectX goes and as I mentioned before, I just upgraded the video card drivers as well. I usually do not have any graphic issues running PC games so this is weird. Thanks for your help Joey.

Have you ever tried SMBX 1.3? It look like to me the window is been screeched out of the Default, it not your fault it the Computer loading the game.
Is this "Start Game" or in the "Level Editor"?

Yes I have tried SMBX 1.3 and I still have the same issue. In both the game and level editor.
