2k1x - The Final Chapter

Okay so since I'm kinda leaving SMBX because it turns out I have a real life now (a what now?) I'm trying to round off the 2k1x series with... fanfiction. Enjoy.
zlaker, Panda, Spinda and Quill stood at the gates of Emral City, shivers running down their respective spines.
"This is it." zlaker looked at the others. "After we enter, there is a chance we might not come out alive." He gulped and started to fiddle with some buttons on his green helmet.
"Do you have the Kappa Shards, Spinda?" Spinda nodded, pulling pieces of what looked like it could form a star shape when put together correctly out of his bag. zlaker carefully took them to examine them.
"Knowing Marina, the gates are probably sealed with some sort of curse. There's a chance that it'll break upon coming in contact with something that still has some of Marina's magic in it."
Quill frowned at zlaker. "How are you so sure that this'll work?" zlaker returned a worried look. "I'm not." Quill tried to protest, but zlaker interrupted him. "Look. This is our only chance to stop whatever the hell is going on behind these walls."
Panda turned to zlaker. "Is it true? Did Marina really...?" "I'm afraid yes." zlaker put an arm to her shoulder, trying to soothe her. Quill looked about ready to punch zlaker in the face for touching Panda, but then he seemed to think of something else.
"How come we don't use Enjl Soda again, like I did last time?" Spinda looked at him in confusion. "Didn't you just pour the soda over the wiring to cause a short circuit?" Quill nodded and couldn't help but grin. He always had the best plans.
Spinda didn't look very convinced. "Well if it's true what zlaker said and there really is a curse on this gate, I don't think we can just pour a soft drink over it." "You never know until you try" countered Quill.
"I think", Panda interjected, "we should stop talking and try to get these gates to open. Who knows how many people already had to die because we're out here, too afraid for our own lifes."
"Panda is right" said zlaker, raising his hands that still held the shards to the lock of the gate. Everyone held their breath. Suddenly, a loud KLONK could be heard, and the gates opened on their own.
"I can see you out there." a distorted, yet somehow familiar voice echoed from a speaker on one side of the gate. "Why don't you come in? We've been waiting for you."
The four heroes exchanged worried glances, then headed through the gate into Emral City.
The city was empty. And by empty I mean like convenience-store-after-11pm-empty. A greenish fog laid upon the city, making it hard to see farther than 20 meters. The quartett slowly approached the main street and after a ten-minute walk took a turn to the left.
The road to the Tower of EZ was just as empty as the rest of the city, except for- "Sinem!" Panda screamed at the sight of her seemingly-dead friend. She ran over to the body and kneeled down beside it.
"I can still feel a pulse!" she exlaimed in relief. "He's alive!" The other three followed Panda and after a few minutes and some well-chosen healing items from Spinda's bag, Sinem opened his eyes.
"Are you alright?" a visibly concerned Panda asked. "Yeah, kinda... the KyoBots got me when I tried to sneak into the tower. I guess that's where you guys are headed too?" The other four nodded reluctantly. "Why aren't the KyoBots attacking you then? Earlier they were all over the place."
zlaker let out a sigh. "Well... Enjl kinda invited us in, I guess." Sinem's eyes widened in shock. "But that means-..." Again, sad nodding from the other four. Sinem got up. "This is bad. This is very bad. We have to go immediately."
"Are you sure you're alright?" Panda asked in concern. "Don't worry about me, we have bigger problems at the moment." And with that, Sinem took up a fast-paced walk ahead of the other four, who just followed in silence, shooting concerned glances at each other. Did they even have a remote chance?
The tower entrance proved to be empty. Not even any KyoBots were put up for guardance. It was like they weren't even trying to stop the group from entering, which only made their anxiety grow.
The elevators were out of order, so the group had to take the stairs. Good thing the tower only had like 50 floors.
After what seemed like an hour, but was actually two, the heroes ended up on the very top floor of the building. Still panting from the ridiculously long way up, they leaned against the wall.
Suddenly they froze, as voices from the other side of the door echoed through the stairwell. "This is dumb, they're never gonna make it here. We've waited almost an entire day." Another familiar voice.
"Geez, have some patience. I already opened the gates and withdrawed the KyoBots. They should be here any minute. Well, or maybe not. I couldn't resist to turn the elevators off." A snickering could be heard, then the first voice spoke again.
"You're such a butt, Enjl. If they're not here in ten minutes, I'm going out to look for them." On the other side of the door, the five heroes stared at each other, sheer horror paved on their faces. They had expected them to come. They wanted to fight them by themselves. That must mean that they had a secret weapon.
Making a decision, zlaker stepped in front of the door. However, just as he reached for the knob, it opened.
Horikawa and zlaker stared at each other for what seemed like five minutes. zlaker still couldn't believe what he was seeing on the other side of the door.
Behind Horikawa, Enjl was sitting on his throne, next to him Marina, sitting on the armrest, next to them AeroMatter, Joey and - it couldn't be - Valtteri?!
Both groups stared at each other in disbelief. Finally, Enjl broke the silence with a nervous cough. "Why don't you guys come in" he said in a nonchalant tone, as if the group in the doorway had just happened to pass by the throne room by sheer coincidence.
Mesmerized, the five heroes walked into the room after each other and gathered in front of Enjl and Marina, whose facial expression showed slight amusement, as if she was watching one of those predictable afternoon soap operas about families with "real" problems.
zlaker couldn't help but stare at Joey and Valtteri, who stared back at him with an equally surprised expression. "Oh don't mind those two" said Enjl, having followed zlaker's gaze. "They're under mind control. Aero has them all tied up with his ghost powers, amirite?"
He shot a glance over to AeroMatter, who was floating above Valtteri's head, looking as if he had just been promised a month worth of Rinka-O's.
Horikawa resumed her position to the right of Enjl, not sure what to do with herself. Her mission had been to capture the resistance, and now they came walking to her all by themselves.
Enjl still sat in his throne, now regaining his usual pompous tone. "Well, well, well." He mustered the group in front of him. "Looks like we're finally ready to have the ultimate showdown." As if on cue, Marina started humming the tune of "Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny" next to him.
Enjl shot her an estimating glance, then returned his gaze to the heroes, who were still unsure how they had gotten themselves into this situation, even though they were the ones who had initiated it.
"I really don't have much to say" Enjl continued. "But... I have a lot to show you." He snapped his fingers and at once a door in the wall behind him slid open, revealing a cage containing four animals. Panda gasped. Upon closer examination, the animals prove to be mutated versions of Mudkip, Michel, Bossy and Merio.
Even though he couldn't see it through the mask, zlaker was sure that Enjl was grinning as he said "Let phase one of the final battle begin."
To be continued... probably not though. Also 2k1x and the vanillasode are cancelled. Unless Enjl and Pyro want to continue it.
Also feedback is appreciated, I've been trying to get into writing lately, this was typed up in an hour, so I don't know if it's any good.
