So this is your project, eh? ^^
It is very funny and interesting to see that the story is based loosely around the bishoujo sailor senshi, which I quite love. ^^
A little fun fact is, that in the past I once planned to have a mario-game in style of SMW, where you can find many hidden passages that lead to the planets of all the inner senshi, where you had to beat 5 levels in each of the senshi's worlds, to get a gem with their respective zodiac-sign. So now you do something with the bishoujo tenshi -uh senshi in your plot there. xD
I can see clear differences between your graphical style and mine, but when I first saw the green pipes on your first two screens, I thought "aren't these mine?" xD
What I like to say, is that your screens really look interestingly like a "Lowser's conquest - catastrope-edition" to me. ;-)
I cannot say too much right now, since there is only two levels shown so far, but it already looks good, also in terms of visible level-design to me.
Also, I like the wooden beams you used for your underground-level - they look nicely SMB3-like to me.
I have also a question:
Will you also use NPCs resembling anime-girls? Like having the sailor senshi themselves?
One thing I can already tell you, is that you really need a lot of time, enthusiasm, and persistence, to make a project consisting solely on your own custom-GFX (I am working on mine since january 2013), so I wish you all the best to pull through your goal.
Work hard......or in the name of the moon (and the ultimate love for bishoujo) I'll punish you ;-D

Do not worry about that. Some years ago, I released a pack called something like "Revamped background GFX-pack" where I put around 30 different level-backgrounds (not counting recolors) inside. They were also used in my project, but the pack only consisted of SMB1, SMB2, SMB3, and SMW-backgrounds. I didn't put in any of my scratch-made backgrounds. :-)
The pack itself got lost when Knux deleted all the forum's boards and topics, but I guess Squishy Rex already put the pack inside the SMBX Community GFX-Pack before that, so people still can get them from there.
