Liking and Disliking?

Hi, I was just wondering if the like and dislike to a post or thread could be added in this forum. It would be a neat feature, so I could like every post made by Joey actually show my support for some things.

I really don't like board modifications that make forums more like social networks, so I don't envision seeing this in the future (that would be assuming a mod for this even exists).
However, I am considering adding a reputation mod at some point where users have a reputation that is increased (or decreased) on a post basis.

This doesn't sound like a reliable idea, the typical users that moderators and administrators usually always give warnings too/practically hate, they'd always get a decreased reputation and frankly there's already someone staff-related here who doesn't really like me so yeah, just my opinion.

That isn't what the mod is for - users aren't allowed to do this and staff members don't hate certain people.

It sounds like a good idea, but I know the only staff members that don't completely hate me are reghrhre, Valtteri, and Namyrr, and that isn't even half of the staff, and it's a given that I'd have a bad reputation in the first place.

Right, I realize a lot of people would agree that anything that remotely resembles a social network is a thinly-veiled attempt to be "trendy" but if you salvage a good TV from a junkyard, it's still a good TV. I feel compelled to point out that knee-jerk hipsterism can be just as harmful as thoughtless conformity.
Objectively, liking is efficient when you don't have anything worthy of posting but want to support the poster. I used it all the time on updated projects at SMBXR as encouragement to the level designers because "I like this" wasn't constructive enough for a post and I often didn't have anything else to say. It feels good to get a like, and it keeps the discussions in the threads purposeful by limiting positive feedback posts that aren't actually constructive.
... Of course, it really depends on how much you guys, as staff, actually care about those kind of posts.
On the other hand, I would expect a person who dislikes my post to either report it (if that's the reason they dislike it) or explain to me why they dislike it. Telling someone you dislike their post without sharing your perspective on why is usually just petty, when a better alternative would be to click "like" on a contrary reply that you agree with instead, or simply type it out yourself.
The reputation thing, I'm not sure of. It seems like it would have its own faults if a reputation score starts to hold more value than what a person is actually saying. I'm willing to try it, though.

I call bullshit. So much bullshit.
And Magician, I have to agree with you on that. When we want to comment on something we simply have no words for, a like button would be good, because right now it's "post constructively or you're in for a warning" type of deal, which really seems unfair to people who just want to say they like something in general, and not for specific reasons to make the post "worthy".

I like the reputation mod idea. Not sure about the like system. I don't think there is even a mod for that. The closest thing to it is the thanks mod, which is very limited.

What's the thanks mod? And why is it limited in aspects?
Joey: How come users can't experience the mod? I was thinking like if someone's reputation reached a hundred percent or something they could try out a staff position, and if a staff's reputation decreased to zero they'd officially get demoted. Come to think of it, the reputation thing could be a good idea, as long as the staff has nothing to do with lowering it or uppering it (unless someone is in charge of it).

Reputation is just a number, not a percentage or anything, and has nothing to do with being staff.

I'm sorry you constantly feel like you're hated by everyone.

I find nothing wrong on the like/dislike system, besides Magician's point regarding the dislike option.
Also, I believe the reputation of a user shouldn't be based on the post count, but how many likes/dislikes the user has or all of his/her posts has, because it makes much more sense that way. You can make many posts and be hated by many people on the community, that doesn't stand for a good reputation at all.

When did I ever imply I felt like I'm hated by everyone? I didn't, that's the thing. I said most of the staff hate me, with exceptions being reghrhre, Valtteri, and probably Namyrr. Nowhere did I even imply that "omg everyone hates me self pity :("
But hey, I didn't count the other staff at all because they barely even post, so, yeah.

I was making a generalization, and I'm pretty sure you saw that but still chose to interpret it strictly.
Staff members still don't hate people.

Instead of replying to each individual petty attack I receive from you, I'll just respond to the hate thread Knux created about me and that'll take care of it.

I honestly don't care if I'm backseat moderating, we're already going Off-Topic here. This thread is to decide if we agree with the suggestion, to which I certainly do.

Back on-topic, I shall say that I want someone to make the final decision and lock this.
