In my opinion people want too many stuff in these levels today ( yes, trying to teach people for some good desing is OK, but when you ask somebody to do this, and this, and this, thats NO ). Accept the fact that not everyone is like Chad and throwing their levels in THE TRASH CAN is like insulting them regardless to these "reviews" which sometimes get boring when I have to read a review long as a book ( yes, probably you want to "save" people from spending their time playing boring levels but thats what screens are for ). Honestly, reading these reviews got me the conclusion: No matter what level style it is but what mostly people want in these reviews are: Same puzzleish levels, Same boring 1 npc every 1 km, Same boring SMB3 style, Static levels, "Easy" levels ( when a level is hard then here comes the negative critism because people cant take that they've died 5 times in a level ). Autoscroll levels are forgotten. They would be so awesome. Finally, in this land of static levels something dynamic would appear, and as a source of inspiration take Geometry Dash. I dont really care how many switch blocks, backgrounds do you add in your level because if you dont have some moving layers, regardless to the level style, then nice try, you didnt impress me. Mazes are also something uncommon, especially PIPE MAZES. Cmon, they are something basic but fun, and not like most ghost houses where you have a "good night" song and some boring boos but a lots of pipes to choose from and some memorizing. Same boring bosses... Boom-Boom, SMB3 Bowser, and Mother Brain with no moving layers or something, just rinkas. And replacing their gfx is nothing, but nothing. If this is a Mario game, then what is the point adding Metroid stuff first? Explain please. If you want something non-generic, then why do you want to change the levels gfx instead trying to add some moving layers? Making a level with a falling ceiling or rising lava ( not the volcano levels ) are 10 times better like changing the SMB1 gfx to SMB3 and woah, "what a nice level".
Have a nice day! :)

I then realized that nowadays 90% of the level forums is something that you would see on that channel

Just think about that for a bit
Hey man I'd be willing to revive #ShittyEpisode with you. We need some harsh criticism and level/episode ridicule to echo through this forum again, because it's clear that sugarcoated reviews isn't getting us anywhere.

Style mixing is not clash. All clash is is two things not looking good together.

The level designers here should take some design pointers from the SMW hacking community and how they implemented creative ideas :P
I'm finding SMWCentral's latest vanilla contest to be super good.

No, but if you miss the jump because of something you couldn't anticipate (like an invisible block or a poorly-introduced gimmick) then that's bad design.

Nobody has claimed that this is bad design. If all the rules are clearly laid out to the player, all deaths should be the player's fault.

First of all: If you want to do something really new and creative, you have to think about all the things and flaws that this idea can make and what can configure a bad level... This is not only about creativity and gameplay (although it's the main point in a game) but how the level will be, how the ATMOSPHERE (combination of gameplay/plot/music/graphics/background) will be...

But everyone can do a level without using any custom graphics (or using basic graphics) and still can do it perfectly because of the gameplay!

*cof cof* Undertale doesn't need megalomaniac graphics to be one of the best games of this century, because of the gameplay, the plot and the amazing atmosphere too! *cof cof*

Well I mean SMBX in general doesn't have to exist. Pretty sure that nobody's life depends on it or anything.
