And one thing :
People being love Linear levels than non-linear levels.
that is because 90% of this community sucks to make actually good non-linear levels.

That's bc people suck at making good ones.

That's actually a very popular opinion

This is only popular in recent times. I distinctly recall those with overloaded BGOs be more or less excused in the past in this community. Oh how standards have changed.

I hated it when people complain over bgo spam and switches, it was getting into some ridiculous fights.
It's like saying that "Starry way through the nighttime sky" wouldn't have won if the CCs were an annual event, that really confuses me.

I feel like people just care about the popular people's projects/levels.
Also, people only seem to like levels with like 6 different curving paths going up and down and left and right...

The SMB2 level that made Tier 6 in CC7 would beg to differ.

It was good for its time, though. That level was made back in 2012 or something. Since then standards have been raised higher with more skilled designers entering the forefront, like you. And now that Lua is a thing the standards are getting pushed even higher. I mean, my CC11 level actually got quite high, but if it were a CC3 level or something, it would have made it to the top 3 or possibly won.

Shouldn't it push the 2012-2013 design higher, with lua there would be a possibility that they all would use two or three checkpoints.
And some events didn't need to be done vanilla smbx, what you said is making it even more confusing.
Also, people hating 3 tileset mixes, when yet there is a joke level that got high and is the second highest scored overall between all 12 CCs (CC5 specifically), it's like saying that it would only reach up to tier 1 in CC12.

Trends change. People used to like and make
these kind of levels, but now they don't.

The main issue DarkYoshi's level has is easy to patch out: unfair NPC codes.
Even if these were patched out, Linik is correct: By today's standards, (a patched) Starry Way Through the Nighttime Sky is a solid 7-8. There are a lot of levels like it and it wouldn't get higher than low-end top 10 in a contest.
This isn't because of overall quality, but because expectations in the community have shifted. Chad's CC12 level wouldn't have won CC5 mainly because the standards back then were a lot different.
I don't know what you're trying to say with your second sentence.

Some people have a fetish for absolute clusterfucks which don't make sense on a geometric level. I think that trend got popular in 2012-2013 in this community. It has to do with the absurd weighting of atmosphere vs. design and expectancy of pretty graphics over a level which has personality in its design.
Looking over to talkhaus you'll see that almost everyone despises excessive layering of decoration and focuses on a level's personality and creativity instead.
I'm not saying either perception is objectively superior to the other, but I think it's fair to say that a level with an excessive amount of tilesets can place very low in a MagLX contest if that's all it has.
I got kinda ninja'd by zlaker.

- People don't use poison mushrooms in their levels enough. (In creative ways, even, like the one in SMB2J's 4-1.)
- SMB1/SMB2J is best style. :3 SMB3 and SMW are so last whenever. :p
- There is no third opinion because I couldn't think of one. So there. :m

Care to give me a refresher on SMB2J's 4-1?

High potential to get stuck in there with the poison shroom. :p
Standing jumps or short falls into a 2-block-tall gap when you're big don't always get you in there, unless you crouch-jump or crouch-fall.

mariogeek2 wrote:Too many new and veteran designers, when designing the boss for a level, just take an existing boss and replace the graphic with something else. A perfect example of this is the Meta Knight battle in h2643's CC 11 Submission "Ocean with Orange Oceans". He literally just posted Meta Knight's graphic over SMB3 Bowser, Galaxia projectiles over SMB3 Bowser projectiles, and increased the speed of the projectiles. That boss was just a standard SMB3 Bowser battle. There are so many levels that do this, it's starting to get old and boring, really fast.
You dont need to agree or care about what i think, but there is no other ways (outside of hardcoded lunalua and lunaddl épisodes) to make custom bosses. But i understand it could be annoying.

There so is and there are a lot that do that. Layers and event can be used really nicely to make multi-phase bosses out of different NPCs
