Customizing the players' sprites

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for a question like mine or if the General forum would fit better, but oh well.

For the SMBX project I'm currently working on (I'll open a topic about it soon), I've been planning to customize the players' sprites to make four different colored Yoshis out of them (not five because Link is locked in my project, as I think he's too overpowered, and he just doesn't fit into my storyline). I know how to rip the necessary sprites, my only problem is that I don't know which sprites to put where in the mario-1.gif, mario-2.gif, etc. I remember seeing a guide a while ago, but I can't find it anymore, and I can't find any other guide on this forum and in the Internet, either.
So I need someone to tell me which of the sprites in those files are used when Mario/Luigi/Peach/Toad walks, climbs, jumps, swims, rides a Yoshi, moves on the world map, etc., or give me a link to an already existing guide in case I missed one during my search.

Thanks in advance. :)

From top to bottom and left to right:

Row 1: Standing, grabbing and running heavy object (right), swimming (right)
Row 2: Walking, pulling from ground (start animation), swimming (right)
Row 3: Jumping, entering door (start animation) pulling from ground (end animation), swimming (end animation)
Row 4: Entering door (end animation), grabbing and running heavy object (left), turning around (left to right), sliding (right)
Row 5: World map walking up (1), world map walking down (1), grabbing heavy object (left), grabbing heavy object (right), world map walking up (2), world map walking down (2)
Row 6: Sliding (left), turning around (right to left), running and grabbing light object (right), entering door
Row 7: Swimming, pulling from ground, world map walking up, jumping
Row 8: Swimming, pulling from ground, walking
Row 9: Swimming, grabbing heavy object, standing
Row 10: Swimming, sliding and grabbing heavy object (left), sliding and grabbing heavy object (right), swimming

This applies for all forms of Mario and for other players as well.

The list seems correct to me, I'd only say that column 2 row 9, column 2 row 10, column 8 row 10 and column 9 row 1 rather seem like the "riding on Yoshi" sprites to me; at least I can't remember seeing Mario walk in such a posture when he carries a POW block.
You're saying your list applies to all forms of Mario and the other characters, but as far as I can see, you only listed the sprites that the normal Mario and the normal Luigi use. The Tanooki Mario sprite file, for example, is more complex because this form, in comparison to the normal Mario, has a separate ducking sprite, has a tail that Mario can spin, the ability to fly and the ability to turn into a statue. Also, the "turning around" and the "grabbing heavy object" sprites in the middle aren't in the same places in the mario-1.gif and the mario-5.gif.
And the peach-1.gif and the toad-1.gif are entirely different to the mario-1.gif or the luigi-1.gif.

Therefore: Thanks a lot for your help, but I feel like the list is incomplete... Is there really no existing guide on the Internet?

Sorry, but wouldn't it be easier if you'd just open the "mario" folder in the "graphics" section?
