proffessional smbx level designer guide

Postby glitch4 » Fri Apr 01, 2016 1:52 pm

sup, today we're going how to be a proffessional smbx level designer which is still better than being smm level designer. unlike other guides, this one's the most useful.

1. level design and aesthetics:
Spoiler: show
for some reason, you think that most of your levels in the trash can subforum are shit. Well, if you want to know how to improve your skills, just follow this tip.

first, use many random tiles from any tileset in this level, because nobody ever does that, but you must do it since it improves the design more and more. Remember to not fill the whole screen, as it will become impossible to beat (unless you use one of these legendery smbx cheatcodes).
Second, decoration - place any background object whatever you want, especally if thebut remember - it must be beautiful!
And the last, NPC placement. place many NPC as many as you want so the level can have some awesome action ever.

mixed styles can also make your level beautiful unlike SMM which is limited as shit
2. music
Spoiler: show
For some reason, you can't seem to find some good music in the internet. I recommend visit giIvasunner. he is one of the greatest high quality video game rippers and I'm sure you'll find a lot of cool music there.
3. layers and events
Spoiler: show
too lazy to talk more about it, but if you extend autoscroll to 5 mins in the first section, your level will be great and enjoyed by lots of users of the smbx community.
lunalua, custom bosses and graphics are optional, just make sure they also make this level amazing

The perfect lunalua code to make any level amazing:
(warning may make level too amazing)
Spoiler: show

Code: Select all

function onStart()
	player:kill()
end

Don't forget that levels

- Should be 20 minute long
- No checkpoints they are for pussies
- Must have a boss rush so bossedit will actually record the stuff you made
- Eyecancer colour

Also:
- Make the level into a long unintuitive maze. (Bonus tip: Use lunalua to make random generating paths to make it even more confusing.)
- The boss must an SMB3 bowser and a generator that produces one bomb ever 2 minutes. (Bonus tip: Instead make the player fight bowser with the fire flower.)
- Use lots of switch blocks to make the level longer. (Bonus tip: Also recolour all the switch blocks to yellow, so it's more annoying.)

I agree with all of these. Also, you missed off these as well:

The level must be SMB3-styled and/or be connected with SMB3
Your level music must belong to the Kirby series or the Super Mario Galaxy duology. DO NOT USE DEFAULT SMBX MUSIC
The level must use lots and lots of slopes

Failure to follow these rules may result in getting your level put in the trash can.

Uh, is this a joke thread? Really immature, have some real tips instead:

You must SMB3 recolor everything, even if it is SMB3 GFX to begin with, you should recolor it to the point that it is the most SMB3est GFX you can ever achieve.

All levels are great. You just don't get them.
