I have a concept... What do you think?

Would you like to see this concept become a main mechanic in an episode of SMBX?

Yeah, sure! :)

I have a concept... What do you think?

Postby Vinix64 » Sun Mar 27, 2016 9:43 pm

Hello everyone! I'm Vinix64... Hmmm... This seems familiar somehow... Well, I can explain...

So, I made a similar topic with the same concept, but it was on "projects". I didn't have any screenshots because I didn't know if you would like my concept becoming a full on episode. And, as it turns out, my topic have been removed because of that... When I went on creating a test level, setup the bindings, creating the sprites (You'll see why in a sec) and eat dinner (I can eat too!), Enjl, a level judger, explained to me, after a few replies, a solution, witch led me making this topic... AGAIN!

Now, the ACTUAL topic/concept...

So... What about multiplayer? Sure, it's a way to play with friends (if you have some), or ruin relationships depending on witch mode you're in... But I asked myself (and tested way before making this post), what if the 2 player mode can be used in another way? What if... the 2 players were just one player? Also, what if there's more than one way to see the world? The result...

This :
Spoiler: show
Just a GIF and the level is just a demo
Image
As you can see from the GIF (and from the power of Imagur), Mario, or should I say the 2 Marios, are moving in the same way because the key bindings are the same. On normal play or other maps, the sections of the level just... won't work with this... But this project is built around that. At the start, you'll be Mario, of course. I'm planning to make other characters playable with the power of "Swap blocks"... But I'm pretty sure that this won't work.

The main thing is than what one of the players sees is part of THE level and is solid for the other player. For example, if player 1 sees a block, it means that this block is solid for the 2 players... I also wanted to make "Fake Blocks", it witch when one of the players can see a "Fake Block", it means that none of the players can touch it, regardless of if there's a block on the other player's side...

Now, the technical stuff (It's a spoiler because it would break the level or something like that)
Spoiler: show
Some blocks doen't have a "shadow", for exemple, block-188 doen't have block-188m. Most bricks doen't have a m file, with the exeption of the SMW ones.
Also, I'm not a good level designer. So, I would need some people : a small team. We would make levels and graphics (because I'm a terrible artist) for my project. Well, I would need one if the concept becomes a real project. If possible, I would like h2643, a graphic designer and level designer who made a SMW level using a similar concept, to help me out. So, if this idea becomes a project, I would like some voulontiers... Reunions will occur trough Skype.
SMOL UPDATE : I don't actually need a team. I just need some time. After all, there's going to be 5 levels for 2 worlds for now. It's just to let you know.
So, I want to make this into an episode (probably a short one, but still an episode) and I just need one thing... Your opinion...
You see, I need a reason to make this into a full on project. I'm counting on you for choosing what I can or cannot do.

Finally, if you have any questions, reply this topic. If you have a suggestion to make, wait until this becomes a project, please.

Thanks a lot guys :)

It would be a bit cooler if the two marios were on different maps with different collisions and stuff and you had to guide them both to a goal. Still a neat concept.

That's a neat idea tbh. The "Fake block" gimmick is something I also wanted to use in my CC12 level, but unfortunately I forgot about it when I was building the level. Voted for "Yeah!"

So it will be like Mario Classic's Cheat Code Challenge 2, but stretched out into a full episode? Sounds interesting; as long as you can keep each level feeling fresh rather than a retread of a previous level (which can be tough to do sometimes), I might give it a try.

This is where it started...

Well, thanks for the support. The reason why this concept might be familiar is because I saw it on a Wii game in witch you ar sent in the past AND present at the same "time". I don't renember the name, but the concept was amazing. Later, I discorvered SMBX. So, I played a bit around and discorved an interesting way to play. It led me making this post.

Woah, I didn't noticed the similarity of the concept (after checking his level). So you could take this as an unintended expansion of your level.
