Return to Retroville

Note: This is just a 5 level Demo. This is not the complete game.

Admit it, we've wanted a good Time Traveling Mario game ever since that horrible Mario's Time Machine game hit store shelves. But this game, has gone WAY beyond expectation.

One day, Mario woke up to 8-bit enemies invading Tanooki Village. He searches for the source of the problem and finds out that a strange house has appeared.

The goal of Return to Retroville is simple. To make a fun, challenging, and rewarding SMBX Episode which feels like a true 8-Bit platformer. We want to create a SMBX Masterpiece. But we can't do that without your feedback. If there's something you don't like about the game, or you just want a new feature, feel free to tell us.

Here are some screenshots.

Special thanks to Bulby and Vatteri for the 8-Bit music I used in the game.

Looks pretty good though I don't understand why there are bushes on the mushrooms, and Mario being 16-bit does look a little weird (not too bad though).

Mario looks 16 bit because he came from his current time (which everything was 16 bit). I also put bushes on Mushrooms for decoration. If you don't like it though I can remove them.

But in all seriousness, this seems like an interesting idea for an episode. We don't get a lot of 8-bit era based episodes these days.
Out of Curiosity, will there be any worlds/levels in this episode themed after SMB2 and SMB3? What we've seen so far has been mostly SMB1-based with graphical/gameplay elements from the following games.

Barrel Buddy could be Mario's partner in this game. She is one of the 8-bit enemies from the past who left Bowser. She provides hints and tips.

This is her sprites but I can make an 8-bit version if you want.

I agree with Darwin, This looks like a very interesting 8-Bit Episode! If I'd say something, I'd say that you should maybe try to make levels based on Non-Mario NES Games (Such as Mega Man). You can find alot of NES Graphics In The Community GFX Pack and The SKL NES Pack!

But anyways, I'm looking forwards to this Episode! I wish you good luck with it! :)

Yes there will. I'll also include some new worlds that have never been seen before in a Mario game, and worlds that explain more about the past of the Mario world.

I might include a few levels like that. I was thinking about doing an entire Metroid level, but who knows? I might be able to include some Megaman levels also.

It's probably a little late now, but I did a full walkthrough of this prototype.
