Bowser Jr.'s Airship - By xtremegamer51 - Reviewed by Kep
Does this classical airship have what it takes to be an astonishing masterpiece or a prodigious disappointment? You're about to find out.
Generally...
I begin off, immediately stumbling upon three question blocks and two bricks, with the two bricks containing coins along with the two question blocks on the left. The one on the right includes a mushroom, and if you're already big a fire flower. I continue onward, jumping right into the music, particularly admiring it as it fits extraordinarily well. I kill the Dry Bones, climb up the latter and hit a multiple coin block and then drop back down and hit the two question blocks and one brick in the middle gaining nothing but simplistic coins, which is very generic. Either way, I climb up the latter farther to the left and the six coins on the right and then seeing an abrupt Bullet Bill launcher with two coins on top of it. Heading more to the right, you kill the Dry Bones and see yet another Bullet Bill launcher, with a gray pipe on the end. Summing up the first part of the level, I notice two things: you put way too many coins in it, including the ones in the coin blocks; also, the orange platform you can jump from under clashes with the SMB3 palette, hence Redigit placing it in the wrong division as it's technically SMB2-styled.
In the second part of the level, exiting the pipe, lies a very linear pathway; one brick and two coin blocks starting it off. However, right when you do exit the second pipe, you're at colossal peril of getting killed by the Bob-omb which is immensely unfair. Otherwise, I continue, killing a Dry Bones with a Bob-omb, running off the other Bob-omb, collecting coins, and avoiding the Bullet Bill projectile annoyances. Ahead, there are six question blocks that all contain coins and two bricks which contain the same thing. I enter the next gray pipe, going to the third part of the level, wondering what exactly to expect, but I would like to mention so far that there has been a gargantuan lack of scenery, which makes things feel less lively and realistically every place in the world has some sort of scenery. I would add chains, and miscellaneous things honestly.
The third section was probably my least favorite, particularly with the water. However, the enemies were splendid, something you'd never really see before in SMBX despite how detailed they are (this will not affect your score; it's just a recommendation). So I collect eight coins, and head downwards with the spiky guy and just get a question block with two bricks guarding it, which each individually contain coins. I head right, collect three coins above me, and head downwards again where apparently a spiky guy is guarding a 1-up. Jumping on an additional Dry Bones, I see a Torpedo Ted launcher. I would say that those three so cluttered are near impossible to avoid, I'd space them out as an introduction since they haven't appeared in the level yet and also some might not be familiar with them since quite a bit may haven't of played SMW. Either way, I take an intentional hit and find four coins above to question blocks and two bricks all containing coins and then below that lies a Dry Bones. Swimming to the right, there are two spiky guys with spikes at the bottom of the floor every which direction. In the central part, there are two coins. On the other hand, I navigate cautiously, anxious for the gray pipe yet there's still another Torpedo Ted and a Dry Bones on the floor of the sunken ship. Swimming up on the left and right sides of the spikes on the ceiling lies four coins a piece, and then I head through the pipe waiting for the fourth part of the level.
Lying in the fourth division of the level, it's probably my favorite due to the challenge presented. A Bullet Bill launcher is initially guarding two coins, and then climbing up the latter there's a single coin block containing coins. And then jumping to the right lies a Bob-omb and a Dry Bones with numerous coins, bricks and coin blocks. I jump to the right, avoiding the spikes, and then jump on the Bullet Bill launcher where there are two coins above it. I jump again to the right, killing off the Dry Bones and Bob-omb, and then enter the gray pipe to see what fun awaits!
Turns out, I'm outside of the ship now. Immediately, there is a Bullet Bill launcher with five coins to the slightest left of it. I kill off the Snifit-esque Bullet Bill too, which above it has a fire flower, and two bricks with two question blocks all containing coins. Jumping on top of the middle question block lies two coins, where if you jump to get them you will uncover three hidden blocks, and if you jump off of them there is a ton of coins awaiting your arrival. Below that, however, there is a Dry Bones with five coins above it, too. I kill the Snifit-esque Bullet Bill of again, and then on the latter collect eight more coins. I jump off the latter to above, and there's an abrupt Bob-omb and Bullet Bill launcher. To the right of those, though, are eight coins, a Bob-omb, and a Dry Bones with three bricks and a coin block all containing coins on the far right. Though, I continue, killing the additional Snifit-esque Bullet Bill and then climb a latter getting nine coins on each. I jump off of them, face a Dry Bones, Bullet Bill launcher, and a Snifit-esque Bullet Bill dude, and I just unacknowledged them. Getting five coins, below that is a fellow Bob-omb, and above it is a Snifit-esque Bullet Bill. I get three coins to the right of him, and then kill off the Bob-omb and get sixteen coins on the latter (for heaven's sake, that is way too much).
I continue on, getting three brick blocks and two question blocks all containing coins, killing the Bob-omb, two Snifit-esque Bullet Biils, and the Dry Bones. I face off three more brick blocks with two question blocks, each containing a coin. I jump on top of the far end question block, however, and then jump from that to get on an Airship ledge containing many coins. Below that, there is a Bullet Bill launcher guarding two coins, and then a Bob-omb, Dry Bones, and a Snifit-esque Bullet Bill guy. Either way, I climb the latter getting six coins, and then jump to the right. On this particular airship piece, there is a Dry Bones, three Bullet Bill launchers, a Bob-omb, and a Snifit-esque Bullet Bill dude with no coins on this airship piece, and only a microscopic fence on the fair left of it so yeah, pretty bland. I jump off that airship piece, heading to the right where lies a Dry Bones, and a Bob-omb. You know what time it is - boss time!... After entering the gray pipe.
It's the basic Bowser Jr., replacing Ludwig. I kill him off easily with the three basic hits, and finish it off! However, I noticed that there was no scenery in this location, which as I said makes it feel less lively. Consider adding some, please, either way. It would additionally be neat if you added some spikes on the walls, ceilings, or floors, or perhaps a generator of some sort like with... well... whatever you feel like should come out of a pipe! =P
